Travelled alone with 2 kids.
Location is away from the hustle and tourist areas down at Pokhara Town. By car, abt 15 mins drive down to the caves and 25 mins to pokhara town.
Pokhara has become more touristy and busy, than less remembered. Raniban retreat was a great location to have quiet moments and views of Annapurna 2 and several other mountains at sunrise. The views in the evening were stunning, it oversees the entire pokhara town and its Lake.
Breakfast and dinner was great, we reckon the chef spent abroad for abit, the staff attentive and receptive to feedback.
The mountain view chalets/rooms were amazing.
Our first room, a bed smelled awful - dampness and the kids had trouble sleeping on it > saved by placing towels. The hotel changed our rooms immediately the next morning when we reported it.

- great food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- nice room and facilities, comfy bed.
- peaceful surrounding area with superb views of everything Pokhara has to offer: the mountains, hills, lake, city, peace pagoda, shiva statue etc. Can't get enough of it!
- despite the food being good, the food service was SUPER slow for all the dinners we had here. On one occasion we waited 2 HOURS to get our food despite there not being many people to serve. We were also not kept up to date during this whole time. It would have been nice to get a heads up or check in from time to time updating us on the waiting time or at least some apology for the time taken, but there was none of that!
On that note the service provided by the staff/waiters was really lacklustre. Often times they were clueless even when asked basic questions. This can't be the same staff people are raving about ?! We really expected much better from such a place.
- Cold restaurant area
- Bad wifi
- The water in the room (both shower and tap) took about 5 minutes of running to heat up.
- Very bad road leading up to the hotel, it's not cemented and very bumpy and rough. They could have done more for the road in the hotel area at least.
- No facilities nearby, it's quite an isolated place so you need to have a transport to get to most places.
