YHA Thredbo

amazing location, view at breakfast was lovely. Breakfast was great just want you need with a lovely variety - better then what i was expecting. Stayed int he family room with ensuite. it was tight with snow gear but clean and comfortable beds. to benefit of staying in thredbo was worth the cost.

So central and extremely clean.

Staffs are very friendly and location is good.

Price is expensive except for doom room. Some people are very noisy.

Pretty good location, high enough for a nice view if you're on the right side of the building and the shuttle bus stop is <100m away so the distance from base building and parking isn't really an issue. Brekky was great (fresh fruit was very welcome), kitchen is well set up, dining room was warm. Room itself was comfy. There's a fire pit right outside, and a great view from the balcony outside the dining room. Overall it was a good stay but the vibe was weird, not sure I'd return.

One toilet cubicle for men upstairs, plus one mixed-gender toilet cubicle downstairs that had no toilet paper after 8pm. No idea how that's compliant for 50-100 guests lol. Two shower cubicles upstairs, one downstairs. We stayed mid-week and the toilets/showers were flat out, it'd be a total nightmare trying to use them on a weekend. Got stuck downstairs at 3am and had to wipe with hand towels which is terrible for the thredbo plumbing (and my butt) but what else am I supposed to do lol 🤷 Super weird rule about reversing out of the driveway, instead of reversing comfortably they force you to perform a 37-point turn in a tight space that's also an EXTREMELY high pedestrian traffic area... I just retired from literally designing, risk assessing, and building car parks and roads for the past 15 years, and I observed at least three near misses between cars and pedestrians in the time it took to unpack two sets of skis and a couple of bags. They seem to think they can issue traffic infringements which is quite hilarious (see photos), good luck enforcing those 😂😂 On the plus side if you run over a child in the car park, YHA is responsible as they've forced you to perform an unsafe manoeuvre under the threat of a financial penalty. The whole place has a weird jail vibe, there's signs with rules and penalties everywhere like "if you do X then a $Y fine will apply" lol. I haven't stayed in a hostel for probably ten years so maybe this is normal but it was like being treated like a child... I just got the feeling that every time something happens that they don't like, they just make a threatening sign about it 😂
