The Barefoot Eco Hotel

What can I say about this resort? It is definitely an atypical choice for the Maldives. While it retains all the characteristics of a private island, it borders a local island that houses the airport. Its predominantly Italian management gives it a warm, familiar feel that easily caters to our tastes. The food is excellent, and the friendliness of the entire staff is top-notch. Many team members even speak a bit of Italian, which is a great help for Italian guests who might not be used to speaking English. One of the features that makes it truly one of a kind is the ability to grab a complimentary bicycle and head over to the local village whenever you like—perhaps for a few small errands. For instance, I picked up cans of soft drinks that aren't sold in Italy anymore, among other things. The only minor drawback is that you practically can’t explore beyond the airport area because there is no road leading to the far end of the island. Judging at least by satellite views, that long stretch of beach would be lovely to visit. The only real flaw—if you can call it that—is that in the mornings, you notice quite a bit of plastic waste washing ashore from elsewhere. However, the resort staff cleans it up immediately, so it causes zero disturbance to the guests. It’s just sad to witness how much plastic now pollutes the Indian Ocean. Like almost all resorts in the Maldives nowadays, prices tick upward every week, driven partly by taxes and partly by high demand since rooms are constantly booked out. It’s a real shame, as this trend will inevitably shorten the average vacation length and shift the clientele toward one-off visitors rather than returning guests. Even with that caveat, a solid 9+ out of 10 to this wonderful resort.

Sehr überzeugende Ökomassnahmen und wunderschönes Resort. Uns hat gefallen, dass im Barefoot Eco Hotel sehr darauf geachtet wird, dass nicht unnötig Abfall produziert wird. Die Angestellten, die im Restaurant arbeiten, sind sehr nett!! Auch das Essen war wirklich gut! Es hat uns gefallen, dass sich das Eco-Hotel auf einer bewohnten Insel befindet. Der Empfang im Resort war nicht sehr freundlich. Auch bereits bei der Reservation , als wir noch zu Hause waren, schrieb man mir, meine Kreditkarte sei ungültig und die Reservation werde storniert, falls ich dies nicht ändern würde etc. Dies obwohl meine Karte, die ich fast täglich benütze, absolut aktualisiert und gültig war. Das gab uns nicht gerade das Gefühl, willkommen zu sein … Und: Von der Treppe des Nachbarhauses (unser Haus war Nr. 8) sah man direkt in unser Badezimmer. Eine Markise als Sichtschutz wäre dort angebracht. Bei der Abreise waren die Damen auf dem kleinen Airport sehr unfreundlich. Sie schikanierten uns und durchwühlten immer wieder unsere Koffer, weil sie darin ein Feuerzeug vermuteten. Das war ärgerlich. Das Eco-Hotel hat da natürlich nichts dafür.

The location was good

The food is cold and not really healthy. The dishes repeat. The spa is too expensive. Yoga classes can not be really called yoga. It’s just some very light gymnastics. Really bad unfortunately !!!!
