Hotel Posada del Rey

Posada del Rey exceeded our expectations. The rooms are amazing as such and also amazing value, big, very clean and comfortable. We loved the breakfast, staff and location.

Hot water can be a bit random, but we had been aware and calculated that in.

Our stay at Posada del Rey was excellent throughout. Staff fulfilled all our wishes and the rooms are beautiful, immaculately clean and spacious.

The staff were great. Very nice and helpful. Especially Wilo. Only the morning reception girl spoke good English; thankful for Google Translate. Good location. Easy to find. Taxis around. Close to “old” city.

This bathroom lacked a lot of things to be desired. Some small details would be easy to fix and could make a world of difference. There is only one small wall hook. We choose to hang our hand towel on it. Leaving no place for either bath towel, or pajamas, or hanging toiletry bag; everything ends up on the floor. There is no counter space with the pedestal sink. Only a wooden table in the corner, underneath the deeply slanted ceiling and NOT near the mirror. The single light fixture/fan was loud and had been knocked off its hinge, assuming someone hit their head on it due to low ceiling. You had to turn it on from outside the bathroom, so in middle of night the loud fan and bright light woke up the other person. The light was behind your head while using the mirror; anyone applying makeup can tell you how bad shadows affects application. The toilet barely flushed, you had to hold the handle a long time. But the sink retained water for hours, it seemed clogged. Finally the shower. The pressure was good, but the water was either too hot or too cold several times during one shower session. There is absolutely nowhere to put your soap, shampoo, or wash sponge, except on the 4” ledge, basically the floor. The shower curtain was too short and constantly drifted in on you while the water was running. I had to peel it off my body on multiple occasions. My suggestions: Add a shelf, or shower caddy, or even hooks in the shower! Move the shower curtain out even an inch or two, and add curtain weights at the bottom! Add hooks behind the door or on the wall for towels and clothes! Fix the broken light fixture and clogged sink! Add a small light on the top of or just beside the mirror. None of these things are expensive. The light in the hallway easily shown through the thin window blind. The bed was old, too doft and sagged in the middle. The breakfast was just okay; same everyday and no meat. We stayed at better places all over Ecuador for about the same price.
