We started our trip in Sao Tomé and Principe with a couple of nights at Mucumbli but returned later in our stay for two more nights. The bungalows are marvellous, clean, nicely decorate and with a very nice view (we stayed in two different ones). The donkeys and goats strolling around the property were very charming and we saw whales swim in front of the lodge while sitting on the restaurant platform. The food was the best we had during our stay and the staff were kind and helpful. We rode bikes along the Cacao Trail, went to swim at Lagoa Azul, and travelled down the East Coast with Mucumbli Explorer.

Lovely atmosphere at dinner and great food and view

This accommodation was absolutely super!!! The stand alone bungalows are all positioned on the edge of the escarpment, offering a fantastic view over the sea and forest below. It was beautiful watching the sun set from our balcony - a memory we won't soon forget. The windows are all mosquito proofed, while a ceiling fan keeps things cooler in the night. The room, and bathroom, are both spacious, with a lot of storage space for clothing and bags. What attracted us to Mucumbli initially was the fact that they rent mountain bikes, and while this is a big plus, we would stay here again in a second, just because of the whole environment. We loved that the lawns around each unit were kept immaculate by the free roaming donkeys and goats. How awesome is that?!! The included breakfast was a great affair each morning, while the dinner (and lunch) menu was varied and very good. We found the staff to be efficient, with the stand out being Inuel, who was an absolute star in organizing our rental bikes for us. He is a true asset to this hotel. While we stayed here for 2 nights, it would be very easy to spend an entire week here. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be out of the main town, but close to all the baobab trees and the blue lagoon!

No fridge in the room. A daily spruce up of the room (and change of towels) would have been nice. The wait time for food at lunch, in particular, is exceedingly long.

The decoration in the several bungalows is really special with many little details very well thought. The food was amazing with plenty of options. We ended up including the dinner with the reservation (as a "half-pension") for an extra 17,50 per person. The location is marvelously integrated with the forest and the beach below. The room did not have air conditioning, nor glass on the windows, by the way, but with the seiling fan the breeze was perfect.

The stairs to access the beach and the path are not very easy, specially with flip-flops. The hot water faucet did not have a drop of water, but that's ok, the "cold" water was good enough.
