Apartment is close to town in a good area and is very convenient. There’s a partial sea view with a nice veranda. Parking is a huge plus. Host is very amenable and on hand for problems/advice. Between approx 23:30 and 08:00 it’s quiet. The bed is good and the shower works well (photos show a bath but it’s been replaced by a shower). The kitchen was good with enough pots and pans for cooking. On the subject of food ‘Cafeteria Apetites’ on the roundabout below is great for a steak sandwich, the best we had (and it’s very good value). Restaurants ‘A Bica’ (close by) and ‘Restaurante Londres’ (both recommend by owner) were good with authentic local food (A Bica was better for ambience and value, get there early, or book). Also went to restaurant ‘O Informal’ which had an excellent 18€ lunchtime menu. Aerobus 500 leaves from 32.6499924, -16.9034385 (nearby) to the airport. Times for buses are sketchy as timetable on the website only shows departure from Praia Formosa (3 miles west). We actually ended up catching bus 827 as it had Aeroporto written on the front. It took 45 minutes whereas 500 would have taken 25 minutes approx and cost 2.65€ whereas 500 would cost 6.75€. We used the Pingo Doce Super Anadia supermarket 3 minutes walk away for groceries. We bought a Rother Walking Guide there which we used a lot for levada walks and other walks. For info the coffee pod machine switches on when you pull the pod tray out (took me a while to work that out). Weather in October throughout the 2 weeks was a constant 23-25 degrees during the day. Very pleasant. Apart from the levada walks our favourite visits were to Achadas da Cruz Teleférico on the western side of Madeira (amazingly steep and only €4 (€2 return if you’re over 65 - ask for a senior ticket), Monte Palace Gardens (wonderful - the Botanical gardens is also good but pales in comparison) and the Convento de Santa Clara in Funchal (beautiful - hardly any visitors).
The veranda view is mostly of an all-weather sports field (with some audience seats) and a senior school. There is a sea view over the top of the school roof in the distance. There’s hardly any traffic noise, just the thrum of the town. During the day the school uses the sports field and the noise is light. In the evening adults take over (men basically, occasionally with an audience). It’s generally noisy until 23:20. Closing the patio doors didn’t help much (no aircon so not a great idea). Other than that the apartment is a bit basic with a few minor issues but we liked it other than the sports field.

L’emplacement est super! Parking sécurisé. Appartement tout équipé. Le vieux Funchal se fait très bien à la marche. Hôte super gentil!
