We arrived from the airport at 9:45 am, and to our pleasant surprise they let us check in early. (We planned to just store our bags, which we did on our departure day.) The buffet breakfast was very good. Wifi was sufficiently good for emailing (we didn't try more). There were usually 2-3 friendly staff at the front desk, at least one of whom spoke English. The beds were comfortable, and we slept well. There was some street noise in the early morning, but not too early for us. We liked the location, right next to a grocery store, a fruit market across the street, a large supermarket a block away, lots of pharmacies, and and ice cream place, that were all always open when we walked by. There were also plenty of inexpensive restaurants nearby. The neighborhood was lively, so we were not out by ourselves, so it felt sufficiently safe. We also liked that it was in walking distance of the two free walking tours we went on, the Lapa neighborhood, Santa Teresa, and other tourist sites. The nearest Metro station is not real close but close enough to walk to (such as Metro to Copacabana). We also got Ubers at this address a couple of times.
There was no shampoo, and not even the front desk had any, so we had to buy a very large bottle at the nearby grocery store. You need to bring a travel size shampoo with you. The staff was apologetic, so perhaps they will provide shampoo upon request in the future. Two of the four power outlets did not work, which is only an issue for us with two phones and two laptops to charge, but we managed. The room is quite small. It was difficult to find a place to lay out an open suitcase. Although the shower, toilet and sink are all separate, the shower stall opens directly into the room with no place to dry off and change other than in the shower or in the room (not ideal if traveling with someone who is not your intimate partner)

Perfect stay for good money! The staff is super friendly and the breakfast is really good. In front of the hotel many busses leave...

Stayed 10 days to teach a course at the State University & to do some site visits. The hotel was great - rooms small but comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic (my daughter is vegetarian and enjoyed it too). Nice coffee. A couple of minutes away you find a health shop with amazing Açai smoothies to sit in, supermarkets, bars, cafes, gyms. The beach and Marina (for boat tours) and old city are in walking distance. It was quiet at night. Lapa is a bit poorer than other parts in Rio (hence the cheaper price) but if you have your wits about you, it didn’t feel less safe than anywhere else we visited. Great bus connections to south or north. The staff are always keen to help and friendly.
