I have a special connection with this place. I first came to Gurye almost 10 years ago, when I happened to discover this place while planning to hike Jirisan.
Mr. Jeong, the owner of the hotel, was incredibly helpful and gave me a lot of useful information. He even took me hiking to Nogodan Peak. Since then, I have kept coming back and staying here over the years.
I really enjoy sitting and chatting with Mr. Jeong, as well as the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of this place. If you want to go into Gurye town, there is a local bus, and you can simply ask Mr. Jeong about the bus schedule.
There is also a 7-Eleven nearby, as well as a few local restaurants where you can have lunch or dinner.
For me, this is more than just a place to stay — it feels like coming back to a familiar place after many years.

This guesthouse is an absolute hiker’s haven in an area that used to be a bustling gateway to the Jirisan Mountains, but was hit hard by COVID.
The owner is a heart-and-soul mountaineer who loves the mountains as well as mountain-loving people. He is an absolute expert on the area and helped us organize our first serious multi-day hiking trip as a family. His advice turned out to be spot on (our initial plans had some pretty big flaws). His warmth and enthusiasm for us undertaking this as a family felt empowering and fueled our excitement for the hike. We feel like we really made a new friend!
The guesthouse itself is in a bit of a ghost town, but has great amenities. There is an awesome common room where hikers can vibe together, filled with mountain memorabilia and information about Jirisan. There is also a nice rooftop area with an awesome view of the mountains.
The place also has a restaurant with delicious food, although it isn’t always open when there aren't many guests. The guesthouse just oozes a love for hiking! It was quiet when we were there, but the place has immense potential to enhance the whole Jirisan experience through its warm, knowledgeable owner and by providing a place to meet people and exchange experiences.
I would especially recommend this guesthouse to people traveling in groups for its awesome communal areas, but even if you travel alone or with your family, this guesthouse is an absolute number one pick!
The area is quiet, so i would advise to do your mountain shopping before heading here

The owner of Nogodan guesthouse is an absolute mountain lover. The only thing he may love more than mountains, is people that love mountains.
The guesthouse has an amazing vibe, although the area it is located in has suffered due to covid and the hotel had been more quiet than it (or it’s owner) deserves. It has to be said the guesthouse is faring better than the other accommodations in the area.
The owner is very passionate about mountains in general and jirisan in particular and went out of his way to help and advise us. I strongly recommend going to this place!
It is a little bit outside Gurye itself in a quiet area. Maybe do your mountainshopping before going here.

Best host and best shower in all of South Korea! The owner took me and my friend on a sunrise hike up Nogodan Peak, which was amazing! A highlight of my trip. The room has a rain shower; the only one I've seen in South Korea. The hotel is beautifully decorated with the owner's adventure photographs.
