The cooked breakfast was great. The room was lovely with a view of the South Downs. Angela was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and answered all our questions about Winchester. The location was perfect, right next to The Great Hall which contains King Alfred's round table.
The bathroom had a strange smell and it turns out the shower drain was blocked. Unfortunately, it spoilt our stay somewhat as it wasn't pleasant having a shower.

The location was brilliant, with an easy walk from the station and really close access to the town centre. Warm welcoming by the staff who were amazingly friendly and helpful throughout the stay. Room was as shown in photo, spacious and good decor. Extremely comfortable beds. Good shower and water pressure. Some thoughtful little touches like the fresh milk and biscuit every day. Water replaced and bins emptied every day. Great bar downstairs and food from the menu was excellent. Superb choices for breakfast. I had everything I needed for a very pleasant and comfortable stay. Loved all the artwork in the bar and restaurant areas.
There was an initial problem with the heating but the staff checked immediately and worked to fix the problem as soon as possible. A plumber was called in and all working by the next day. They informed us frequently about the progress. I liked everything about the property, even the wonky staircase which is the character of the old building full of history.
