Great host, wonderful location, and lovely room

Amazing price and great location. The host John is a wonderful man who has stories for days. Make sure to ask for breakfast, which was the best I had in Ireland. I can’t recommend this place enough and I would stay here again.

Delightful stay, perfectly situated between various top attractions. Hosts were so kind and caring.

Everything! John was a lovely host and made our stay extra special with a full Irish breakfast. The location was also perfect as it was close to all the main activities including Dingle and the Ring of Kerry.

You Can FIND Better - They want your money and not you

It was clean. It was sort of weird that you had to take off your shoes at the door, but that is understandable and it does make the carpet cleaner.

The place itself is nice, but the hosts should take a course in Hotel and Restaurant Management or may be hang this business up. They clearly don't want guests. We stopped early, in person, because we had no way to call them or message them without wifi. We wanted to let them know our plans. Both the man who was in his office, and the woman outside, IGNORED US. We knocked on the window, approached the woman outside who saw us, and walked away, we rang the doorbell and knocked, with no response. So we left. In the mean time we purchased data for our phone so we could call them. Tried to call, and no one answered. We came back later when it was check-in time. We could hear the guy coughing in the house. Again, no answer to the doorbell, knocking or phone call. We walked around to the backyard to get his attention-NOTHING. So we left again. We went to a pub to try to figure out what to do. The woman at the pub said she knew them and wanted to call them. We didn't want her to bother, but we think she called them anyway. After a half hour or so, we decided to try one more time. When we got back to the property the man was sitting in his car that was parked in front of the house. He got out and greeted us. Welcomed us in. Within a couple minutes he asked if we had been there earlier. Well, YES! This was our 3rd time at the property. He said he thought we were meter readers and he didn't have his phone and he didn't hear very well.... He was friendly and chatty; I think because the lady at the pub called him. I got a text later saying he was sorry he had missed us. Well good. OK apology accepted, but it doesn't change the experience. Also beware!!! The busy road in front of the property is dangerous. We took a look at the other reviews and we aren't the only guests with this experience. And the RESPONSES to those negative reviews, WOW, believe the reviews! WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIS COMMENT TO ANOTHER POOR REVIEW!

Great view, wonderful breakfast

John, the host was so pleasant, and accommodating. We really enjoyed the breakfast with the beautiful view! Have recommended to others and look forward to a future stay again. Stayed on 1st floor, with ensuite bathroom, very nice.

Stylish and comfortable Castle maine stay

Beautifully located BnB. We were warmly welcomed by the host John to a tastefully decorated home. Very comfortable and clean rooms. Generous Irish breakfast in the sunny dining room. Thank you!

Clean, quiet, comfortable stay

Our room was just like in the photos, big clean comfortable bed, nice front garden view, a kattle with coffee and tea. Owners were friendly. We do not mind taking our shoes off in the house to keep carpet clean. Good location, quiet but only a few minutes drive to the nearest town.

The blinds do not cover all window so the room won't be dark at night luckily we brought eye masks with us. Another small thing, a small bin in the room would be good, may be near the coffee area rather than taking rubbish to toilet bin. Overall we had a good comfortable night and would recommend the place.

Exceptional

The owner was really nice and flexible, we asked for a very late check-in, they waited for us until midnight. There was an optional breakfast too. The room was spacious and very clean. The bed was big, and very comfortable. The room could be shaded very well and it was very quiet, there was no traffic noise. The shared bathroom was very well maintained. Lovely accommodation close to Kerry Cliffs and Portmagee. The owner was helpful and gave us even a list of things to see in Kerry.

Good for Overnight Stop

Pretty house, nice garden area. Good for an overnight stop, but not for any longer.

We were there with another couple and the consistency between rooms was different. Their room had a TV, ours did not, Our room had an in room coffee maker, theirs did not. No restaurants or shops with in walking distance.

Wouldn’t stay again

Pretty home, ample parking The owner’s son was very helpful

On arrival it was requested that shoes be removed on carpet. I would have liked a heads up on that, especially since the stairs were quite steep. The combination of no shoes and steep carpeted stairs made for a slippery situation. The individual milks for room tea were spoiled, even though they should be shelf stable. No apology from the owner. He just thought it odd and suggested we use the milk in the kitchen refrigerator, which was appreciated. Shower water was scalding first morning- and we had to ask for wash cloths and a bath mat. Again, no apologies, but the son took care of these issues with a pleasant demeanor. At one point the owner mentioned a former guest who left because there was no hot water in the house. The owner said, “I didn’t care. I got my money!” Yeah, not a real warm fuzzy guy. If not for the son, this review would have been worse.

Beautiful, clean, comfortable, homey stay!

The hosts were so kind and welcoming to my sister and me. It felt like we were staying with family! We loved the hearty breakfast and loved chatting about life with the hosts! This is a super clean and beautiful place. I also enjoyed watching the local TV channels in the room. Thank you so much!

Comfortable but not worth the money

Our room was very quaint and comfortable, the bed was great and there was lots of storage.

We were unable to make contact with the host in any way due to lengthy response times, and upon check in he was unhappy to be woken up. We weren’t allowed to use any common spaces in the house as advertised, and when we declined the €12.50 breakfast, the host said “oh thank goodness”. The soap/shampoo dispensers were empty in our bathroom and small pieces of crumpled cling film were used as plugs.

Friendly host, but room didn't meet expectations

Very friendly welcome. Comfortable bed with electric blanket!

No heating in the evening. Room rather cold. No television in the room. despite being promised on booking.com site. Bathroom cold and shower water was only tepid. Light over mirror didn't work. Misunderstanding over breakfast. We understood it was included in the price - but possibly our mistake. Don't like to complain, but you did ask!

Loved every minute, a wonderful time, so helpful and friendly means a lot when you are a senior citizen traveling alone, Castlemaine was fab, I ate every evening in the Griffens restaurant, lovely staff and excellent food, will definitely be back.

Just one minor detail, I don't drive I love to walk but unfortunately the road from Leabrook House to Castlemaine was very dangerous but up stepped my host and hostess and helped me out, also a gentleman called Johnny who got me back to Leabrook safe and sound in the evening
