Maison De L'Orb

Property was a short and pleasant walk from the station. Our host Mark was waiting on the doorstep and greeted us warmly. We really appreciated this, as could easily have walked past. Our room was lovely, with plenty of space and a huge bathroom. Beautiful view from the juliet balcony. Lovely to have fresh,cold water in the room, and the means to make a hot drink. Breakfast was delicious, and something different every day. It was an informal affair where you could linger over coffee chatting with other guests, and with Mark, who was a mine of information and a very interesting guy. We were out during the day mostly, but there was a little sitting room had we wanted to sit and read. Unfortunately the garden was closed for refurbishment. Lots of information available and recommendations of things to do. We very much liked Maison De l'Orb. It is a very old building, decorated and furnished tastefully to suit its age. The hosts go out of their way to accurately describe online the nature of their B and B, pointing out it is not a hotel. I can honestly say, however, that what it lacks in 5☆ facilities, it more than makes up for in charm, location and friendliness.

Friendly, hosts Ben and Mark made us very welcome. Provided lots of information. Enjoyable breakfast and such easy access to the old town.

Fabulous place to stay - quiet, peaceful, and the patron is friendly and obliging. An easy, beautiful walk to the 9 locks. The town centre is at the top of the hill, but there are lifts to get there. Large room, large bathroom, view over the Orb and the Vieux Pont. Stylish furnishings throughout the Maison. What also gives it a nice feel is that it's a guest house rather than a hotel. Good selection for breakfast in a cosy breakfast room that feels like home. I loved it. I didn't want to leave!

Not an issue for me, but not a place to stay if you have mobility issues. This is a lovely old house with lots of stairs. Again, not an issue for me as I went into the town centre, but no nearby restaurants - that I spotted anyway - please correct me if I'm wrong!

Location is very nice, the view from the room is fantastic! The city is at walking distance and very easy to navigate.

The bed was not very comfortable: just some slats and a thin mattress. Hardly any water pressure. They don't have wifi for their guest!?
