Amazing in every aspect!

We spent our best time at Wayang Retreat while visiting Canggu. The villa is in the perfect location and even though the streets are busy, there is just no street noise audible while you are at the hotel's premises. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay, it is run by lovely and interesting people we enjoyed our conversations with :) Wayang Retreat is also full of interesting art and the overall design makes you feel relaxed from the very moment you start your stay. We definitely found our Zen here and we would like to come back next time we visit Bali. For animal lovers, there are 2 dogs and a great number of Koi fish around the living room area. We would like to thank the whole staff as well, you really make this place special :) see you next time!

Super architecture, garden and location!

Super hotel, traditional Java houses, fantastic to have such a garden in the middle of Canggu! Great location to hang out!

Our room did not have open windows but thats the style of the house!

It's a beautiful retreat. So peaceful and serene.

Our room had a very uncomfortable bed. We also didn't have hot water for showers

Superb

Wayang Retreat gives you a nice balance of relaxation in contrast to the bustling city of Canggu. In a great location, you just a quick GoJek away from the beach and you’re also close to restaurants and coffee shops. Really enjoyed my stay here

Amazing lush and unique retreat. Would recommend 10/10

The design of Wayang and the smiling kind staff were a highlight of our month in Indonesia. The unique traditional and antique retreat is owned by a family and it shows- the setting was peaceful. Basically a lovely green oasis. The staff were awesome and personable- it’s obvious this isnt a big corporate hotel chain. The location is good and you can’t hear any traffic (really unusual in Canguu/ Berawa). We would love to come back and would recommend. We found the dogs really cute and chilled. Koi pond was awesome too.

Beautiful garden and pool, great communal areas, very friendly and helpful staff 🙂

The room didn’t have any natural light, and the ac wasn’t super effective. A ceiling fan or two probably would have been better 🙂 apart from that though it was really lovely

Great place to stay - would recommend and stay again.

Room was spacious, had a great wardrobe and the most beautiful bathroom. The communal area was always spotless and was a very comfortable space to hang out in. The pool area had lots of sun which kept the water a lovely temperature all day.

The hotel dogs were lovely to have around, but they could be treated to more regular baths! A nearby 'call to prayer' woke us up several times at 5am. Not the hotels fault, just something to be prepared for.

Fantastic hidden gem in the busy area of Canggu, close to shops and restaurants but far from noise.

I liked the ambience of Wayang Retreat. The two dogs were very tame and lovely, I would come back just to see them again. Junior was knowledgeable and fantastic to speak to, he was helpful in answering questions and also a very friendly individual. He helped us book a driver (who was also fantastic) Breakfast was nice as well, starting from 8/8:30 am and it was toast and fruit - very standard breakfast. Our room was quite nice, they provided insect repellent, the shower and toilet was indoors which was nice for a change. There was also a pool that we did not used but looked clean. We would definitely stay here again.

The grounds are beautiful, very well cared for. Staff is very helpful and always available. Great pool! It feels very private even though you are in the heart of Canggu.

The beanbags around the pool are not very comfy so we didn't end up using them. No problem though since there are multiple deck chairs available.

Junior and the staff was very helpful and nice. it was quiet and peaceful atmosphere. we loved the swimming pool the patio and the view from the room.

Gardens on the property very lush and well kept. Artwork throughout interesting. Staff friendly.

Facilities run down. Pool dirty and decking well beyond repair. Rusty nails and rotting wood. No fridge or kettle in room. Air con not big enough for room and they turn it off when you go out. Come back to hot room not nice. Was over priced at $170 AUD a night for no luxury at all.

Beautiful, relaxing

The location was lovely, hidden off the main road so that it felt like a little oasis of quiet in the busy town. Staff are very attentive and the bungalow was beautiful. Ulekan restaurant just down the road is a must try for dinner!

Breakfast was very limited, only a croissant, toasted white bread and fruit. Would recommend not paying for breakfast but getting something at the many local cafes and food stands.

Love all, the manager welcome us nicely, taking the time to explain where to go and visit but also go for drinks and food. The staff was also lovely all along, taking care of us The room is beautiful with a large bathroom. Garden and swimming pool are perfect.

Good place to stay Canggu

The location is great Plenty of space in the room and bathroom The garden and pool is amazing

Disappointing

I was in a room overlooked by construction workers so there was no privacy even in the bathroom. My room was noisy so I didnt get to sleep

Could be great but isn't

The old villas were neat, location ok, the central shared kitchen was handy, comfy bed. The gardens in the property were lovely. The doggos!

In general the maintenance and cleaning of the property, in particular common areas, needs major work. I say this as someone who has lived in Asia for 10+ years and am used to some level of run down. A few examples include the lack of cleanliness on pool furniture, the shear level of grime in kitchen (water dispenser, dish drying rack etc.). For our villa the bathroom stunk A LOT and the shower didn't drain. For these reasons I don't think it's worth the price, only half. It's a shame since the bones of the property are fantastic.

Well taken care of and truly a retreat

The common spaces are amazing! Big and well equipped kitchen, amazing staff and always clean. Also the location is great as it’s not directly in the busy area of canggu but easy to get there and it’s quite and peaceful.

The room is very dark as it has no windows. Also as it’s all built with wood, so sounds can get in easily.

A lovely stay

Bright airy room, funky bathroom, nice communal areas with all the facilities that you might need. The staff were helpful and the location is good if you rent a scooter or don't mind getting a few taxis. It's not walking distance to the beach (30 mins- a lot in the summer humidity).

The bathroom ventilation was poor so it was like a sauna but other than that, we had a lovely stay 🙂

beautiful oasis in the middle of Canggu. The rooms were superbes and the bed huge and comfy.

As someone from the hospitality industry, I noticed a couple of maintenance jobs who need some attention such as the shower drain and the sink not working properly

Very relaxing

Really good location, no noise from any roads outside but close that we could walk to restaurants. The facilities were amazing, especially the pool and open kitchen. Staff were so friendly and helpful, we would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful traditional and rustic property!!

What a beautiful traditional and rustic property. Lovely gardens and comfortable accommodation. Staff very helpful and kind. Great location quiet (away from busy Canggu) even without a scooter, walk to excellent restaurants and cheap Gojek ride to the main area of Canggu.

Nothing! Would highly recommend the property and will stay here next time in Canggu.

we loved everything in this place! it’s quite, not far from centre by scooter, the pool is amazing and this place is 24/7 clean. staff is great very friendly and helpful.

sometimes it took a couple of minutes until hot water came through the shower .
