We loved our stay at The Hermitage Hotel. The room was spacious, comfortable, and well presented, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The excellent buffet dinner offered a great variety of delicious options. Waking up to the overnight snowfall made the experience especially memorable, creating a beautiful winter atmosphere. The hotel was a wonderful base for enjoying the scenery, and we would happily return.
Some areas of the hotel felt a little dated.

Great location,very close to Mt Cook
Quite disappointing experience for nearly NZD 600 per night
This was one of the most disappointing hotel stays I have had after many years of booking hotels through Booking.com.
I booked a Mount Cook mountain view room and specifically requested a high floor when making the reservation. The hotel replied by email that they would try to accommodate my request. However, upon arrival, I was given a room on the 5th floor, which is actually the lowest guest-room floor (there are no 3rd or 4th floors).
Yes, I could technically see the mountains, but the main view was the car park and the rooftops of the lower floors opposite the room. This was certainly not the mountain view I expected when paying nearly NZD 600 per night.
I arrived at around 2:00 pm and was told that my room was not ready and that I should come back at 3:00 pm. I completely understood and had no problem waiting until the official check-in time. However, the condescending and unfriendly attitude of the staff member who checked me in made the interaction unnecessarily unpleasant.
The room was clean, but the bathroom door was broken which made it quite inconvenient.
At nearly NZD 600 per night, the basic hospitality and room conditions is the least a customer shall expect.
I strongly recommend that management check the room allocation records for Thursday, September 10, and verify whether all higher-floor rooms had actually been occupied. If higher-floor rooms were available and my clearly stated request was simply ignored, this deserves an explanation from the hotel.
Beautiful location, but unfortunately the parking lot view, service and room condition did not meet expectations.
