We had a wonderful stay at Tampat do Aman- Howard was so friendly and helpful, he showed us around and gave us recommendations what to do and where to eat( Inas café is really good). He cares about the local culture and environment and there is also a little museum about the people there( the Rungus) and their culture. We overall can really recommend staying there!

The host is an experienced vetern of the hotel services industry and he has made sure his offerings avoided all the annoying aspects of traveling to magnet areas like the Tip of Borneo where this property is located. While the rustic almost open to the jungle accomdations are not for everyone (there are fully furnished with en suite bathrooms available) where one experiences any discomfort interacting with animals of tge tropics...really only lizards and mosquitos...the host Howard compensates with goodwill and lots of personal attention. The onsight musuem documenting local populations complex culture along with an accessible jungle trail he maintains on the property to his willingness to shuttle guests to an attractive list of nearby beaches that still beautiful inspite of the plastic that gets brought in by tides...this is a wonderful inexpensive option for travellers. No doubt Howard the host is the main attraction. He make a visit to the larger area possible for those without their own transport.
Specific to the living spaces, while the range of offerings caters to those willing to good basic to those wishing more comfort, my time in the cheapest offerings was acceptable thanks to the fan...only the mosquito net would not fully close...requiring i lay in a way that maximized coverage by fan..if there was another one in the hut it would have been difficult to rest. I would grip about not having a place to hang the bathing items and thouroughly wet shirts one invariably brings back to the property as this is in a tropical forest. Maybe a few nails to hang up sarongs, towels, bathing suits n shirts would help...i now have still wet clothes trsveling within my bag...minor thing though.

The love and passion was overwhelming and made us feel one with nature and culture of Borneo.
it’s back to the roots and not for someone who is looking for a luxurious stay. it’s simple but we loved it!!!!! we would like to come back again to support Howard in sustaining the culture
as mentioned back to basics but we don’t complain

Howard has created a beautiful lodge intertwined with the surrounding environment, going above and beyond for any guests needs, the wildlife reserve he has created is fantastic for bird spotting and if you're lucky enough to be there when he does his edible and medicinal plants tour and traditional rungus lunch don't hesitate.

Tampat do Aman gives you a real jungle experience, set right in the heart of the sights and sounds. Our room was fine, with a bug net around the bed and a good shower. Howard was extremely helpful and drove us to the beach, and picked us up at the end of the day. Breakfast was simple but tasty and a small extra charge. We had an interesting walk inside the lodge’s own nature reserve.
Somewhere to sit in the bedroom would be nice. The mattress/pillows were fine but could have been comfier.

It’s a beautiful place in the middle of the jungle. The whole area is fantastic with loads of things to do (beaches, surfing, diving, jungle, wildlife, super friendly locals, great food, you name it) and very little travellers around. Howard, the host, is super helpful with about everything. He helped us a lot with our travel plans and had great knowledge about the nature and the local people. Especially the jungle survival course is superb. He also offered a free shuttle service to get around.
Not really something that bothered us but still a caveat: It’s in the jungle so expect mosquitoes and other stuff roaming around.

Owner Howard is very friendly
Room is clean.
The most can’t be accept, there is 1 animal always shout very loud at the midnight.
Every single hour shout, make me can‘t sleep all night.
Until almost 2am finally can sleep and then wake up at 6am…
Bedsheet and sleeping sheet in the room got an old smell
Outside of the chalet, most of the facilities are under maintenance
Not worth the price but good experience.

It was off the grid jungle feel - animal sounds all night, geckos as house guests keeping other animals away
Mice - going after any little food

The owner provides excellent customer service and suggestions of where to go and where to eat….Very Very Friendly
I mean we didn’t mind the nature aspect of the place but I think most people will so book the chalet’s if you don’t want to use composite toilets and shared showers

The place is amazingly beautiful, wide choices of accomodation - chalet, hut, and even long house. Cool people, love the vibe.

I was told of this place by a fellow traveller and I'm glad I listened to her.
I loved that it felt like I was off the beaten track. Howard and his family made me feel so welcomed as soon as i arrived. He spent time with all guests each day having great chats.
There's plenty of various types of accommodation. I stayed in the longhouse and it was fantastic.
Howard is also highlighting the Rungus people (the local indigenous tribe)
I loved that Howard is managing the place with an eco consciousness, starting with the compostable toilets!
On one of the mornings I even participated in International Coastal Clean Up day along with all the locals at the local beach.
I'm happy I stayed the 3 days. I definitely could've spent more time just doing not much but had to get back to catch my flight home.
The cold showers even if it was so hot but only briefly because as soon as you're dry it was refreshing.

Howard was an amazing host - nothing was ever any trouble and he took us everywhere and was a fountain of local knowledge. Location was great for exploring the coast around the Tip of Borneo and all the locals were incredibly friendly.

This was a very cool place with traditional types of rooms and lots of activities (which we didn’t have a whole lot of time to explore, but they were there). The host, Howard, was an amazing guy and gave us a ton of information and invited us to a baby turtle release. You can tell how passionate he was about the place.
Some things needed a little love, but they are recovering from the pandemic and I didn’t mind the rough edges.

Had a great two nights stay in this nature paradise. Howard, the owner, has a deep knowledge of the region and its culture. He will make your stay super easy going and can drop you around if you have no vehicle.
Accommodation is very basic and that's exactly why you're going there! If you are scared of little insects, you shouldn't be in Borneo at the first place so move on!
Thanks for this stay, loved the refreshing shower after a hot day! Wish you all the best for your future plans.

I liked what this place is about; ecologically sound tourism that reflects and celebrates local culture. The place was pretty empty and quiet but my chalet was good and I had my own bathroom. Sitting on the veranda listening to the thundering rain surrounded by trees felt like a proper jungle experience. The local beaches nearby are stunning & the water pristine. There are a few basic restaurants operating on the beachfront & breakfast can be bought at the resort.
The British owner, Howard, is a nice helpful guy, good to chat to, drove me to/from the beach and showed me around, which I really appreciated. He’s also genuinely invested in the area and invites youth groups to volunteer and learn on site, and I think the resort and its associated projects deserve to be supported.
The area and it’s businesses need visitors after a difficult pandemic; I’d encourage people to travel beyond Kota Belud and Kudat to see and support this beautiful, wild and lush area. I’ll definitely be back one day.
Mozzie and sand fly heaven but that’s Borneo! Bring long sleeves and repellent. Howard provides mozzie nets, coils and joss sticks, which were very helpful. Can get wet and damp so waterproof bags for clothes etc.

An exceptional place in the jungle, great property the scenery is quite impressive. If you need a quite unique place and like the jungle far away from daily life and tourists crowds it's a great experience.
Excellent long beaches nearby, but you have to walk or hitchhike. I had the host Howard kindly driving me to the beach.
Listen to Howard's recommendation for eating or other things to do!
Howard is super welcoming and knows a lot about the area and has some interessting things to say about the creation of the location.
There are different types of accomodations and I like the fact that you have to walk through this jungle garden, passing little bridges, huts, old trees and observing all kind of animals, insects and lizards on the way to your room.
You have eco - compost toilets which are greatly done, respecting the environment.
The showers are open air, youmight spot the stars while showering at night or the one or other lizard, big and small passing by. It's a new experience to get used to and inforces the living in the jungle experience.
It's sad that there were not more travellers to exchange with, also there are many great common areas / museum as part of the property, which were not in use, because there weren't many travellers around at the time I have been due to reopening everything up after the COVID Pandemic. You can feel that this place has a lot of potential, when there are more guests.
As mentioned above it's a place to cut with the outside world and relax, therefore ther are only a few spots in the area, where you will have internet conection.
To get there consider hitchhiking, take a collective taxi to Koda (if you depart from Medan - vice versa departing from Koda), and ask the drive to get you off at the junction where the streets lead to Rate Tampat do Aman, from there hitchhike. It's easy, I didn't wait 2 minutes to find two cars to take me there. The second car was a police car ;) .
I know I am in the jungle, but it is one of the rare places I have been where the moscitos where very hungry :) Even with moscito spray. So be prepared and bring perhaps a anti-moscito spiral with you.

Owner Howard very keen to show us around the place and provided excellent information of interesting places to go.
A very long Power cut happened on the night we stayed.

due to covid the place look a bit scary but i slept well

It was rather cheap for a night stay. RM35 per pax sounds about right. The host Howard was really friendly and very informative on briefing our stay and where to get our meals and all.
I personally do no have any complaints about the room. But the rooms was actually locked with a rusty padlock 🔒 that doesn’t seems that sturdy.
I understand during COVID pandemic everything has been difficult, but the establishment looked really weathered and concerned of the safety of my foreign friend whom I brought along.
My foreign friend got very put off with their toilet. I can accept communal toilet. But a eco-compost toilet without a water source was quite discouraging for us to continue the stay there. On top of that, they had to have water source issue, of which we had to ration the water to shower at 4 separate, open-aired cubicle shower.
Suffice to say, we didn’t stay at the long house and left to hunt for another location which we can shower and pee in peace.

Beautiful place in the middle of the jungle, wild but pretty well organised.
The must, in the propriety it is possible to see the bird and the wildlife from an observatory point!
I enjoyed a lot spending some times there, Howard and his family are very nice people, they took the time to show me the good spot and share their times with me. The room is super nice, fan, mosquito net, beautiful decoration and very peaceful terrace (which is juste wonderful for the coffee time).
Highly recommended !!!

I came to know this place while looking for place to stay near Tip of Borneo.
The place is quite hidden from the road but you won't miss it if you have your google map on. Just make sure to reach there before dark coz there are no road lights there. You could miss it in the dark. There is a shop next to the premise.
The premise is basically in a jungle. But that's expected. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the owner, Howard. Howard is so welcoming and very informative. He has a dog called Panda but Panda seems trained and used to see new visitors. The chalet I stayed in has an attached bathroom.
There were just us and another couple staying in that big area at that time so it was quiet. I could hear sounds of animals and insects bringing me back to those years when I was small.
If you are an adventurous person and looking for experience to stay in a jungle area, this is the place to go.
This place doesn't come with foods. You could go to the beach area where there are few restaurants/ makan place. I was there during Chinese New Year, so no restaurants were opened. Perhaps, you should bring some foods just in case you don't find any restaurants. Kudat town is about 30 mins away.
