The host gives the place a real character. She loves being back in her hometown after years of stressful Tokyo life. Hundreds of photos of previous guests adorn the walls... if you love chatting to the locals, this place is for you!
The city itself doesn't have a great deal to offer. But Hisui Cafe makes it an entertaining stopover between Toyama and Niigata. In about 4 hours, my wife went from complaining about stopping here, to demanding a return trip next year!

We are cycling and it was one of the only places we could book in this section of our trip. We don’t usually book rooms without bathrooms but since we were the only ones on our floor is worked out just fine for us. The owner was cooperative and nice. It was like camping with other people’s gear as the futons were well used. The place worked fine for us. The shower was brand new and very nice.

The owner is lovely and I had a great time chatting with her. Also there was an option to buy breakfast and I'm wrapt that I did, it was amazing!!
The accommodation was in a different building up the street from the owner and I was the only guest so it was a bit lonely and slightly freaky wandering about it by myself on a cold dark night!
