Great host, stay and experience

The whole time we were at Moon by Night was great. Rooms, bedding, bed (which was big and comfy) and bathroom were clean. The room was well equipped with fridge filled with beverages at fair prices, cold air-con, fan, table inside and outside etc. The little veranda outside your room is great to look over the river and catch the sun set. Darren makes the place what it is, he was forever helpful and always up for a chat. Just a chill and genuinely nice lad. Any issues or anything needing booking etc. he is very knowledgable and will be up front and honest with you. We couldn’t fault anything with our stay - we extended an extra 2 nights. Just remember you are coming to an island in the middle of a river, in the middle of nowhere. The locals here are busy working and living off the land, there is going to be the odd animal noise or the odd bike going past. It’s all part of the experience, you’re on a small island not a resort. Wish I could’ve stayed longer.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The aircon works and it has a fan as well. The bathroom is big and the shower has hot water. It is a wet shower but built well. Floor drains quickly. Has river views. The owner, Darren was extremely helpful. He is very quick to respond via the booking.com app. He came to fetch me from where we landed at the dock. He has mad motorbike skills in the mud. 👍🏻 He booked my bus ticket to Siem Reap for me. I will definitely stay there again.

Great spot with aircon and a really friendly and helpful host

Great spot with aircon and a really friendly and helpful host, Darren. He picked us from the port, arranged everything and was so knowledgeable- take his advice about the “secret” waterfalls with the fishermen, and if you go there be brave on the bridge 🤣🤣

Comfortable and a great place to chill

Nice location, helpful owners, water refils available, fridge in room was very useful and stocked. Bicycle hire was made easy. Pickup and drop off to the port was very helpful. I would stay there again... and the piglets next door running through the garden were super cute.

The air-conditioning was a little noisy, but that was just in my room. All the others were very quiet

Amazing

We absolutely loved it. Don Det is a very special place on earth and Moon by Night is the perfect accomodation for this. The room is bright, spacious and clean, the Aircon working and it comes with a full fridge. You can spend the whole day hanging outside in a hammock or renting a bike and explore the island. We loved it so much, we extended several times. Darren, the host is exceptionally kind, very helpful and gives lots of good tips. He took us out with his boat one evening to watch the sunset on the Mekong which was amazing.

Probably the best option on the island

Great host, lovely garden and good value! Room was clean and had aircon. Was well priced vs the other options.

The only thing that didn’t go well was the bus transfer we booked through the owner and his travel agency partner to Cambodia. AVT was the company and they took 3 hours longer than the promised arrival time and made us change bus three times.

Great location & owner

Really good spot by the river. Fantastic owner Darren, really helpful with tips for the island and gave us a lift from the boat. Great coffee in the morning for a little extra. Good Wi-Fi & air con. Fully stocked mini bar fridge, with beers & soft drinks. Comfy bed, slightly hard pillows, didn’t bother us but might others. Refillable water station for free.

Could be a little cleaner, just a few cobwebs.

great place, 5 minute walk from the pier, but everything on the island is very close. nice terrace to sit on and the fridge was full of drinks. the fella who owns the place is very nice and helpful, tells you everything you need to know and where to go on the island and helped us sort our trip to Cambodia

Superb

Location was great, quiet with sunset views. Lots of great places to eat nearby. Darren was super helpful, picked us up at ferry port and dropped our bags off when we left. Yummy coffee and he can help you with any enquiries you have. Don Det is a wonderful place!

The room is lovely and we totally appreciated having air con! We doubly appreciated having a fridge with cool drinks (free water and a good rate for beers!) Darren, the owner was an absolute legend for us. He's lived on the island for a long time, can speak the language and helped us with motorbike rental. In fact, he ended up helping us four times because of a few flat tyres :) Thank you Darren, you really welcomed us into Don Det!

We booked for 2 nights, I'd advise everyone to book for 4. It gets booked up quickly and sadly we couldn't extend our stay!

Very good

Really enjoyed my time at Moon By Night. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. In a good walking distance from the Pier. Also the service was excellent and I even got a ride with the owner to the Pier in the morning.

100% recommended!

Darren is such a nice and helpful host! He helped us organize our arrival, picked us up at the ferry, brought me a fresh coconut when I was sick, and was just always helpful. The bungalows were really clean, the beds super comfortable, the location amazing and overall just a nice place.

A real gem of a place

Nice big room and bathroom. Bed very comfortable. Fridge well stocked with drinks to be paid for. Good free coffee, served by the owner Darren. He is a wealth of information re the island, and will go out of his way when he can, to help you. Nice garden with a lovely riverside view. Room has both aircon and fan, which was perfect. WiFi was also good and reliable

We'd love to come back

We agree with many other travelers: this was one of our best stays in SEA so far. Darren is a wonderful host, providing you with tips, delicious coffee, and a good chat throughout your stay. The rooms are spacious and very clean and you get a lovely little terrace to watch the sunset on the Mekong. We would have loved to stay longer, but sadly had to continue our journey through Laos. Thank you, Darren!

The only thing we could critize is that the pillows were a little too high and firm for our taste

Darren picked us up from the boat, he was very welcoming. He had some great advice. Always around to help you out, without being too present. the perfect host! The place was very clean and the best bed we slept in so far.

Highly recommended!

- very big room with both aircon & fan - soft & comfortable bed - a fridge & drawer filled with a huge choice of drinks and snacks for fair prices - spacious bathroom with strong flush & water pressure - terrace with beautiful garden view & the best sunsets we've seen so far in Laos :-) - rented mountain bikes were in top condition - fast & free luggage pickup from the pier The owner is friendly, outgoing and always helpful. If there's something you need to know about Si Phan Don or Laos, just ask him. He knows a lot! Thx so much for our awesome stay Darren! ;-) Steven & Pookie

Would definitely recommend this place, the room was great and the owner was helpful. Big + for the fridge and snacks in the room, came in good use since i got sick and wasnt really able to run to the stores to get drinks etc..

Excellent, good value for money

Comfortable room, high ceiling, thick walls (cooool), hammocks, ducks and chickens passing by, sunset, mountainbikes...(better than the average pushbikes on don det ;-), host Darren (no further comment-;)

One disappointment: no elephant shaped towels on the bed 😉
