A beautiful, peaceful place away from the hustle and bustle of life, a welcomed break with the family

I loved the location it was so quiet and peaceful away from the hustle and bustle of the city with views of the Dordogne river, you could watch the sunrise and sunset from the large front garden or by the river, the scenery was beautiful, the accommodation was lovely, modern and cozy with everything you need, situated off the main villa so although attached was completely separate with its own entrance, conveniently located just 40 minutes drive from the centre of Bordeaux and close to local villages, supermarket and towns, our hosts Gerard and Vivien were so lovely, kind and thoughtful, very welcoming and although we couldn’t speak French (or extremely little) we had fun trying to communicate, they arranged a wine tasting trip for us at a nearby vineyard which was amazing and invited us to join them with a New Year’s Eve tradition of drinks and lighting a lantern to bring blessings and good luck for the forthcoming year, we felt honoured and privileged! Gerard was happy to show us around the amazing cave system that was in the back garden only discovered a few years after they first moved it, was used as a wine cellar but now home to really sweet local wildlife in the form of bats, being animal lovers we were in our element, I would highly recommend staying here if you want to get away, our stay was during the Christmas and new year break, the weather was warmer than the UK and we even had a Christmas tree made for us from the garden with fairy lights to enjoy during our stay 😊

The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, showing us around the extensive old mine workings, dating from Roman times, which have been used more recently for wine storage. The owners very kindly posted on some headphones to us that we had inadvertently left behind.

The first bedroom was very comfortable, but the second one had restricted headroom.

Rejuvenating and peaceful stay

Absolutely magical stay at Villa Bacchus. Such elegant and welcoming hospitality. I stayed in the garden room and loved the peace and quiet and range of kitchen facilities available. The bath is worth coming back for alone!

We had the room with the outdoor kitchen and we really enjoyed the outdoor space and view over the forest, we even spotted some deers in the garden while having dinner. The hosts were lovely.

It was a little bit warm at night.

Perfection

The apartment (one of two), next to the actual magnificent villa, is more than perfect. The appartement is beautifully done, the bed is exceptional and the kitchen fully equipped.

kindest hospitality, we have seen in europe. house is beautifully renovated and decorated with high standard technical equipment. located in a peaceful area to provide good sleep. in the walking distance to Bourg village and very close to several nice chateaus for wine tasting.

Fantastic accommodation, perfect location and truly friendly and helpful hosts in Bourg-sur-Gironde.

Villa Bacchus is exceptionally well situated to ensure a private and quiet get-away, while being a perfect hub for visits to Bordeaux, Medoc, and the beaches. But the real surprise was the Bourg area, itself. It is beautiful, charming and a fantastic wine region. We definitely would return to this area and, specifically, to Villa Bacchus.

Absolutely wonderful stay at Vivianne’s and Gérard’s historical home.

Large, luxurious and comfortable apartment in an old, renovated mansion. Interior decoration is beautifully done, kitchen & bathroom are modern and have all the necessary modcons. It also has a lovely terrace and the surroundings are very peaceful and green. The owners are very welcoming and attentive. Gérard organized a winery visit for us. Ask him about his cave :-)

The only negative remark we can think of is the mattress, it was a bit too hard for our backs, but otherwise we slept well in the kingsize bed.
