About this cottage rental
Nestled in Damariscotta Lake, this attractive cottage for $175 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. A cozy cottage located on Great Bay of Damariscotta Lake, was renovated and remodeled in 2013. The charming 1 bedroom retreat has a queen- size mattress and is the perfect getaway with a dock, 2 kayaks, and a canoe waiting to be used as well as a boat launch right on the property. The living room has a full-size sleeper sofa and the kitchen is in the shared open space. There is WI-FI, a Roku TV, an I phone charging stand, an Alexa, a Blu-Ray player. and a heat pump unit which provides heating and air- conditioning. I provide all linens, towels, paper products and a complete kitchen with all utensils, ice and basic condiments. The lake is the largest in Lincoln County and is well known for great fishing, boating and swimming. Located in mid-coast Maine close to the towns of Damariscotta, Rockland and Boothbay. Sorry, no pets.

The experience was better than advertised. Host is super.

House is perfect for two people. Really well decorated rooms, great location on the lake, includes a dock. Both the owners, Holly and Mark, could not be more accommodating. There is an area on site where you can launch a boat if you bring one. Mark was very helpful in helping me launch my Bass Boat and also was there when it was time to load it back onto the trailer. We will be back for sure next year.

This is a small, but perfectly outfitted, cottage at the edge of Damariscotta Lake. The views are beautiful and the owners are very helpful, friendly, and quick to respond. We especially loved hearing and seeing the loons. The furniture was comfortable and the grill worked great! We highly recommend this cottage.

Great location on lake with easy access to towns of Damariscotta, Waldoboro, Rockland and others. The cabin has all you need including a canoe and kayaks. The cabin is comfortable and the view of the lake is priceless. We will be back.

A little piece of Heaven. We love coming to Mark and Holly's cabin every year. So much so we have booked it 2 years in advance already. They are super nice and accommodating and make you feel so welcome. The cabin is always very clean and every year they've done things to upgrade. Don't Want to Talk About This PLACE
If I tell too many people about this place it will get overcrowded and that wouldn't be good for me. Among other things, I like quiet, sorta backwater places, with views, water, comfortable chairs and this well maintained cabin has it all. If you like lake living, here you can sit practically on top of the lake. It is a bit of a drive to the sea, but who cares. It is beautiful to be here on the lake and even better to come home to. I had a great time.

Our safe harbor in the storm!
It wouldn't be summer without a stay with Holly and Mark at their perfect cozy getaway cabin. Kayaks in tip top shape and the additions of new flooring and Alexa a big plus. As always, Holly and Mark are consummate hosts- attentive, thoughtful and otherwise practically invisible!

We loved our stay in this cozy cottage!
Perfect place to relax and recharge! We had an amazing time. The owners were very accommodating and friendly. This cottage was complete with what you will need while you're away from home (comfortable bed and plenty of hot water for your morning shower). They really think of EVERYTHING and do a fantastic job of providing a welcoming place.
The lake is absolutely beautiful and we saw some awesome sunsets. We enjoyed the loons that came to greet us in the evenings as we sat by the campfire (Mark was very generous with providing the firewood). We brought our own boat and loved exploring the lake. I would mention the great fishing, but my husband says I can’t tell anyone else… so shhhh! ;)
The windows in the cottage provided wonderful views of the lake- even while lying in bed. However, my husband and I found such tranquility in waking at dawn and sitting in the Adirondack chairs on the dock enjoying the morning stillness.
We had some nice side trips while there. Acadia Nation Park is only about 2 hours away (without traffic) and just amazing! Also, if you are into lighthouses, I would then recommend Rockland Break Water Lighthouse. It is about 2 mile walk on granite blocks, so wear comfortable shoes. Also, we enjoyed Owls Head Lighthouse and Marshall Point Lighthouse/Port Clyde. In Camden we enjoyed driving to the top of Mount Battie, which overlooks Penobscot Bay (also nice place to watch the sunset). It was windy and rainy the day we went to Mt. Battie or we would have hiked to the top (6 miles total).
The cottage is only about 15 minutes from a grocery store and restaurants. We highly recommend Moody’s diner.
My husband and I look forward to another opportunity to rent this property again.

Perfect Lakefront Vacation
Our family of 3 enjoyed a relaxing week of swimming, sunset gazing, bird spotting, and occasional kayaking. Loved Damariscotta town with its river, yummy restaurants, two bookstores, and little shops just a 15 min drive away. I really appreciated the owners' attention to details. They keep a very clean, classic, rustic-renovated cottage with all the amenities you could ever want for a perfect lakefront Maine vacation. Thank you Holly and Mark.

Little piece of heaven
Holly and Mark are wonderful owners. They are right next door to answer any of questions but yet you would never know they are there. The cabin and location are a little piece of heaven. Waking up in the morning to the sounds of the loons, and sitting by the fire pit watching the beautiful sunsets.
We hated to leave and loved it so much, we will be booking for 2 weeks next year. Great spot, great location, great cabin, and great owners. Would give it 10 stars if possible.

Paradise on Damariscotta Lake
This place is PERFECT! We couldn't have been happier with our stay. Mark and Holly were excellent hosts, they were great to chat with, very hospitable and accommodating, but constantly made it clear that we could have as much privacy as we wanted. And as far as the cabin's concerned, they've thought of everything! The cabin has kayaks, a canoe, board games, firewood, an outdoor gas grill, a hammock, etc. We honestly didn't need anything at all, except for groceries. The lakefront and dock were idyllic. We swam in the lake 4 or 5 times a day. The cabin is in a bit of a cove that gives it a quiet sense of distance from a lot of the activities in other parts of the lake. But a lot of this has been covered by other reviewers, so I would just add two things that I haven't seen mentioned in other reviews: the first is that the view of the lake from your living room is spectacular, it doesn't come across in the pictures at all. But while you're sitting on the couch or cooking lunch, you get this perfect panoramic view of the lake. And second, the cabin is oriented so that your private dock faces a dramatic, fiery sunset every evening. We sat on the dock and watched the sun go down every evening. It couldn't have been any better! Oh, one more thing, we saw a bald eagle within 10 minutes of arriving!

Perfect vacation getaway!
We just spent an amazing week at the cottage! I can't say enough about how wonderful it was-- the cottage itself was adorable, immaculately clean and so very comfy. It had absolutely everything you would need. Holly was even thoughtful enough to suggest not doing a lot of grocery shopping ahead of time until we checked out what was already at the cottage. The lake views are incredible from both the living room and bedroom. The location is so perfect-- right on the water. There are other homes along the lake, but all the trees give such a feeling of privacy. The photos are very accurate-- you really do have your own fire pit with chairs, dock with chairs and front deck with a grill and even more seating. Holly and Mark provide a canoe and kayaks (in great condition) -- and the slope of the shore makes it incredibly easy to get the boats into the water. The lake is easy to navigate and the water was crystal clear. You are only about 10-15 minutes from groceries and some great down-home restaurants, and even that drive is relaxing and scenic. With all this said, it was taken over the top with Holly and Mark as hosts! They were a huge part of what made it all so idyllic. We felt at home the minute we met them and got the tour of the place. They very definitely gave us our privacy, but were still very much there for chats and if anything was needed. It is so obvious they want their guests to enjoy the lake living as much as they do. We just cannot say enough about the incredible week we had. We came a long way (Kansas City) and it was worth every mile! Thank you, Holly and Mark.

Lovely, clean cottage near everything....and that includes farm stands.
Everything we could ever need is either in the cottage or close by. We enjoyed lunch in Bar Harbor and breakfast at Pemiquid Point. Shopping in Damariscotta was fun as was touring Christmas Cove, and lobster at the co-op. Wonderful experience. Would enjoy a repeat visit.

From the first correspondence to saying farewell, Holly and Mark were the perfect hosts: helpful, accommodating and efficient, yet unobtrusive and respectful. Having them right next door was great. The cabin is SMALL so don't bring more than you need. It is outfitted with everything we needed- WIFI, towels, kayaks, all kitchen utensils and condiments (like vinegar and oil), paper towels, etc. A lot of things we haven't found in other rentals. Great shower with plenty of hot water. We'll be back next year!

We LOVED our stay at the Howland Cottage this year!
This cottage has everything you need for a perfect stay on the lake. It was clean, updated, fully furnished, and even provided us 2 kayaks and a canoe to use on the lake. The view, fire pit, hammock, chairs on the dock and the warm hospitality of the Howlands made our stay the best ever in Maine. I wish we had more than a week scheduled there. We would definitely choose to come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a place on a lake in Maine. Thanks Holly and Mark for making our first visit to Damariscotta Lake everything we could want. And thanks for the great weather!!
