Broad lands is an ancient structure. A combination of history and heritage. I felt like I am in time travelling to the past. a very peaceful. Apart from the view, their service was good. the room i stayed in, has no AC but the room was quite cold. the room has enough sitting arrangement and a reading table. for a single room, the setup is good enough
they don't have geyser in the washroom. the washroom floor are very old and sandy. the bucket is very old which look unhygienic. the curtain in the window and in the door was insufficient which do not cover the window and the door properly.

The room was lovely. Nice and big with high ceilings, great aircon and ceiling fan. Big bathroom. The building is just lovely. Very rare to find somewhere so interesting, non corporate with the charm of a bygone era. Like something from India's colonial heritage. The guys that run the place are great. The location is good. Down a quiet(ish) lane in a central part of Chennai. Great food around if you get out and explore and not far from the cricket ground and the beach.
Broadlands is exceptionally good value. I think my room was less that $20 AUD a night. Rent a scooter to get around and see some of Chennai. It's not as intimidating as you might think. The people are lovely.
Breakfast would have been nice but very understandable why they can't/don't do it. Also there's loads of good places around including lots of fab little tea stands around where you can get chai and a couple of samosas for well under a dollar. Chennai is super cheap for proper Indian stuff.
