About this house rental
Need a quiet getaway in the heart of Old Town Fort Collins? Let the Choice City Bungalow and our garden oasis be your home away from home. Built in 1900, this charming 1 bedroom, 1 bath home with a newly updated kitchen tells the story of historic Fort Collins. Arrive at your private retreat through the screen door entrance, the gateway to a secret garden path. The house is situated on a quiet street, just a five-minute walk away to favorite Old Town shops, bars, restaurants, museums, popular performing arts venues, and our world-famous breweries. CSU is also located just a few blocks away. If you feel like reconnecting with nature, ride one of our bikes or take a relaxing stroll to City Park or the Poudre River. If you want to get a bit further around town, the MAX bus stop and several other city bus lines are just around the corner. The Canino family, true Fort Collins locals and the owners of the oldest Italian restaurant in Fort Collins, Canino’s Italian Restaurant, purchased this quaint house in 1978. Karen Canino, your host, is a recycle artist and former grade-school art teacher. Artist-Explorer Karen runs her recycled art shop and gallery Screen Door Studios Gallery established in 2008 from the front part of the property. Open most Saturdays. The business will not interfere with your stay in any way. You might find yourself wanting to purchase your hand made Fort Collins souvenirs right on site. With great attention to detail, Karen lovingly and expertly curated the living space to reflect her travels around the world, eclectic style, love of art and knack for creating custom-made items out of found and recycled objects. Every piece in this home and garden has a story to tell and invites you to take a trip around the world. Bright colors show off molas created by the Kuna Indians of Panama, Oriental rugs provide luxurious softness, and original art turns this home into a miniature gallery. Dine seated at the vintage bench or al fresco at the table under the pergola in the whimsical backyard. Hooked? Here are a few more details to help make your decision: • The full kitchen was updated in 2018. We provide all kitchen essentials including a dishwasher. • Locally sourced soap and other basic toiletries. • Full washer and dryer with essential cleaning products available. • Private driveway for you to park in. • Two bikes are available for your use! • The brass double bed sleeps two extremely comfortably (just read the reviews). We can also provide a twin size rollaway for an extra guest. • Summers can get hot in Fort Collins. To cool this house down sustainably, we invested in an attic fan – the most natural fit for the bungalow. We will teach you how to use it so you can enjoy a cool and relaxing stay. • WiFi and Netflix available. • This unconventional home is best suited for adults and children over 8 years old. • Don’t forget, stop by the Screen Door Studio to bring home a one-of-a-kind handmade Fort Collins souvenir! Karen is such a lovely host. Very friendly and helpful. The bungalow is great with everything you need for a special stay. Super location. Very quiet but only two blocks from a wonderful breakfast place and walking distance to downtown.
Don’t miss the artwork and colour around the place which helps make it so special.

This bungalow was the very best in terms of its central location, its many amenities, its classy, unique decor done by its artist-owner, and mainly its owner herself! Karen was THE PERFECT hostess from check-in to check-out and beyond! She met us at the door when we arrived and stayed in touch throughout our stay to make sure absolutely every tiny thing was taken care of. She opened herself and her whole family as the dearest of friends would, made amazing local recommendations, personally arranged an unscheduled trash-pickup, and stepped up at the last minute to literally save us in a weather emergency. She gave me her own cell number and I will keep it forever. I’ve already tried to reschedule a future visit, and was saddened (but not in the least bit surprised) that her charming little bungalow is very booked!

We enjoyed our stay very much! It is close to campus and Old Town. It was the perfect little place for a fun weekend of food and football!

The property description gives a good sense of the property: it is small and wouldn't take more than 2 people, it is charming and creatively decorated with artsy and vintage pieces, the yard is a bit unkempt but has a lovely sitting area for outdoor dining. The cottage is within 5 minutes walk of Lucille's (nice breakfast / lunch place) and 15 minutes walk of either Old Town with all the restaurants and shops, or CSU. We enjoyed it and would happily stay again.

I expected my stay at Karen's cottage to be wonderful, and I was not disappointed. From the fresh flowers to the spotless kitchen, everything was absolutely A+. Being surrounded by art and funky decorative items made the experience a joy. I was able to cook a full meal in the kitchen and enjoy it outside with guests under the arbor. If you want a relaxing and lovely getaway in Fort Collins, in a location that is easily walkable from campus or Old Town, this is a great choice.

The bungalow was quiet, clean, cozy and equipped with items to make our stay comfy and enjoyable. We were pleased by its proximity to town and went sightseeing on foot the entire time there. If we decide to visit Fort Collins again, we definitely won't hesitate to book this stay again.

The bungalow is gorgeous. Karen met us on arrival, showed us around and gave us a few suggestions of things to do around Fort Collins. We loved the character of the bungalow and it was well furnished for our stay. The bed was comfy, we both slept great every night. We walked to old town several times admiring the neighborhood gardens. We’re looking forward to coming back.

We stayed for a weekend and were able to walk most places we wanted to go. The bungalow was very well stocked and that made it much easier to cook a few meals. We would stay there again if in the area.

I was in Ft. Collins for a conference at Colorado State University, and chose to stay at Karen's Bungalow rather than a hotel. What a great decision. The house is in a very quiet neighborhood that was an easy walk to campus as well as many great restaurants. Karen met me when I checked in to make sure I had everything I needed. I would definitely stay here again!

We loved staying in this wonderful little home that was walking distance to the downtown area. The home was clean and had everything we needed for an enjoyable three day stay. Our host met us when we arrived and made sure that all of our needs were met and that if we needed her over our stay, we new how to get ahold of her quickly. We would definitely stay here again!

The Bungalow is a comfortable place to stay within walking distance of so many things to do.

We stayed over the Thanksgiving week. Yes, we cooked a thanksgiving dinner for our CSU son. The pictures online are almost as cute as the place in person. LOTS of character. Walking distance to old town, so no need for a car. The ownership was very responsive to any questions we had. Considering a trip in spring now.

Our sons attend CSU and we came for Homecoming weekend. The location was perfect for us to walk to school and attend all the events. On Saturday we discovered a lovely farmer's market near old town and walked and shopped in old town. The kitchen was stocked with coffee/tea along with some cream for our first cup in the morning after we arrived. We were grateful for this small gesture. We felt warm despite the chilly mornings and evenings and slept well in the bed. The sitting room was perfect for us as one sleeps later than the other. While it is small, we wanted for nothing and wondered why we live in a bigger place when all our needs were met in this historic charming bungalow!

Love Karen's little bungalow. It was perfect for my husband and myself while we were in town to visit our CSU daughter. Karen was quick to communicate with and her extra touches in the house made our stay more than we had hoped for. Kitchen was very well stocked too. We also really enjoyed sitting out in the garden and drinking our morning coffee/tea. Thanks Karen. See you next time.

Super clean, fully equipped, and very comfortable home in a quiet, charming neighborhood. Short walk to downtown FoCo, the Lincoln Center, and all that the city offers. Karen was an amazing host who met us personally at check-in, gave us excellent recommendations, and was available for any questions or assistance. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will make it a point to return for a longer stay next time. Highly recommended!!

This is a cozy and convenient bungalow from which to explore Ft. Collins. The host communicated well with us. There were lots of extra touches provided for guests such as good quality coffee and tea, bicycles, and toiletries. The check out process was very easy - no long list of required duties, though we tried to help by stripping the beds, washing the towels and taking out the trash. I would definitely consider staying here in the future.

This property was great. The entire place was spotless - even the floors. The kitchen was well-stocked with quality cookware, dishes, cutlery, etc. and a great selection of seasonings. The outdoor space was perfect for al fresco dining and the gas grill was like new. The neighborhood was quiet and the location has easy access to parks, shopping and dining - and we enjoyed using the two bikes, which were in great shape. We were concerned that the property was small, but it didn't feel that way at all. We had plenty of room to relax and enjoy our week-long stay. Although the bed is a double, it was quite comfortable and we didn't feel crowded. Having a washer and dryer in the unit was great. The attic fan provided ample air flow throughout the house. We will definitely book this place again next time we visit FoCo. Karen is a great host and we appreciated the personal touch of meeting us at check-in to orient us to the property.

I cannot say enough great things about this place. Karen met us at the bungalow and showed us around. She had maps and restaurant/brewery recommendations for us. I was so surprised by the special touches of coffee, tea and special soaps. We were able to walk everywhere from here which was so great! The place was spacious and very comfortable. Luckily for us we have a reason to come back! Thank you Karen for the special stay!

Great Location
My wife and I had a lovely time in Fort Collins and staying here was so nice. It was beastly hot while we were there, but the apartment stayed nice and cool with the help of the attic fan at night.

Loved the location of this rental! Easy to walk or bike into town. The rental was clean and Karen was available to help with anything we needed and stopped by to give us step by step instructions on checking in. Would definitely recommend!

Nice property in great location
Great location in quiet Old Town neighborhood with wonderful gated garden area and dedicated off-street parking. The host was so great to work with and she has made the place very welcoming and easy to use. The kitchen has lots of spices available, is well stocked. Nice linens.
If you are not familiar with Old Town Fort Collins, it is a wonderful, quiet area of town where you can walk for several blocks of tree-lined streets with historic houses and beautiful gardens. This property is only 3 blocks from the central business district of Old Town.
The only drawback we experienced was not significant. The house is cooled with a whole-house fan that is rather loud. You control turning it on and off, so you can shut it down overnight. We did once the house cooled in the evening and were fine.
