beautiful little slice of paradise
beautiful little slice of paradise
We enjoyed our stay so much! I saw one other person on the beach in front of the house the entire time. I enjoyed snorkeling. Do bring swim shoes (I did) if you are going to snorkel of course. While we were there, it was a bit windy, and the seas were a bit rough, but that is to be expected in February. The view from the house is breathtaking, and the cabin is well equipped. It was very roomy! There were only two of use, but a large family could easily be at home at this house. The wifi was better than my wifi at home. We didn't watch tv at all (stargazing every night from the upstairs balcony was preferred)..... I highly recommend. Mr. Everette was so kind, and we did his excursion too.... check it out.... the lunch was so delicious. It was myself and my 21 year old son. Beautiful time in a beautiful place! We brought our own "dry good " food items (oatmeal, instant grits, granola bars) and then just bought food on the island. Spent about 200 on food, but there were two of us. Ate breakfast and dinner at house, and packed a lunch if we left (sandwiches, fruit...)
Lovely place. Definitely rent a car. Rocky roads of course once you get off the queens highway, but I was used to that from living in Central America for a time. Hope to come back one day!

Best Beach on San Salvador!
Best Beach on San Salvador!
We loved our trip to San Salvador! The beaches are beyond ~ so pretty, great snorkeling right from the beach, miles to explore! And the best part? One of the very BEST beaches is right in front of the house (5 stars) ! We enjoyed so many swims. Our daughter even got to frolic with a pair of dolphins one evening - they were super curious and they followed her up and down the beach.
The house is basically appointed, with cooking utensils and pots and pans, spices, and other kitchen goods. The caretaker delivered a grill while we were there, but we couldn’t find charcoal on the island (I think Dorette’s is planning to stock some). We did encounter a few problems with the house itself, but Lori and Bill and their caretaker are working on improvements and I think they will be in place quickly. The rinse down shower off the deck was awesome and refreshing after the beach.
The stores are much more dependent on the boat than other islands we’ve been to - adds to the adventure. If Dorette’s has fresh bread or sweet pastries, buy them even if you don’t need them. SO GOOD. We had some trouble finding fish, check out the harbor in the late afternoon if you can’t find any.
What to do? Visit Grotto Bay - the snorkeling is amazing. Lots of fish, beautiful coral. Sandy Point - beautiful, huge beach. Some good shelling, and an AMAZING spot to watch the sunset. We even saw a green flash! Other beaches around the island will not disappoint, so explore and find them. We found great snorkeling to the north, right before the road turns to the right and heads into United Estates. Walk over the bluff and settle in for a beautiful day! The beach near the High School was super cool too - too murky for snorkeling while we were there, but I bet it’s awesome. The ruins are super for exploring and we loved the lookout for a great view. We had a great few hours poking around the ‘flats’ (take the road going out to the kite surfing inn, look for a pile of rocks on the right, follow the path out to the tidal pools). Go at lowish tide. Lots of cool creatures. The lighthouse was amazing. We were not brave enough to climb down into the cave, but if you bring a flash light, you should. Go through the gate in the wall and follow the path. Dripping stones was an interesting visit ... ran out of room! For more, visit the travel forum!

This beach house is simple and charming. The secluded beach is just a few steps off the porch, and is a magnificent 1/2 mile long beach where you usually see no-one other than your party. The island of San Salvador has numerous gorgeous beaches (East Beach, Sandy Point, Columbus Landings Beach) and the locals can take you for world-class bone fishing or reef fishing. You can snorkel forever, or go scuba diving with Riding Rock. This friendly, laid-back island is known for it's welcoming locals. Once you have visited San Salvador, you will be welcomed "back home" the next time you come! Repeat vacationers are the standard to this little-known treasure. You will love this beach house as the base of operations for your vacation.
