Old timey simple stay that was practical

The staff was welcoming and helpful. It was refreshing in a large city like Kolkata. Also the location is central so very practical. The comfort was the minimum expected (large room, comfy beds, bathroom with heater, lift for luggage, room service with kitchen until 10 pm). Good value for money and perfect for a large group 2 days stay.

Please note 4 points : 1/ There are stairs, so be careful if you need to carry your luggage. 2/ The lift is limited to four people and the door may be dangerous for distracted travellers (old lift with two grid-like doors) 3/ No parking space, and not much space in front of the hotel for a taxi to park. So you need to indicate the sign of the hotel to the driver and let them park further down. 4/ Book this stay if you are on a multi people trip, on a budget, enjoying old building and / or just want to be central and visit everything on foot. Metro Esplanade is next door :)

Location, ambience and value.

Location cannot be better. Just look at the map. Inside, step back in time. The rooms are large and airy with a fan and ac. Many original fixtures survive. Possibly some of the furniture and artefacts. The bathroom is renovated and the shower is hot and powerful. Despite the location, street noise is pretty low. It's kept clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you aren't in a hurry, breakfast on the veranda is pleasant before the traffic builds. You can also enjoy amazing colours as the sun sinks through Kolkata aerosols at sunset, but the views aren't special. For the price, the facilities and location represent excellent value. And you're helping preserve a character full establishment rather than the modern soulless hotels that are everywhere now.

WiFi was low power. The restaurant on the veranda could be better and faster (but good value)

BUDGET ACCOMMODATION IN THE HEART OF THE CITY.

LOCATION IN THE HEART OF THE CITY. GRANDEUR OF THE OLD STRUCTURE. HELPFUL STAFF.PROXIMITY OF MAIN MARKET FOR SHOPPING NEEDS.

UPKEEP OF WASHROOMS & ROOMS HAS TO BE IMPROVED. MORE ATTENTION ON CLEANLINESS & DAILY MAINTENANCE. BREAKFAST ON OFFER WAS LOUSY. DIFFICULTY IN GETTING UBER, OLA OR THREE WHEELER ON HIRE FROM THE HOTEL PREMISES AS IT IS A MARKET AREA.

Place was okayish. But I have had better stays for lower price.

the structure and interiors of the property… it has the resemblance of buildings from British era. One thing I can say about the property is that it was a rich historical experience.

Appliances in bathroom like geyser and taps were not working properly. The place needs a little bit more maintenance and cleaning.

I had a wonderful time and to me by far , the best facility and nice, clean, big room, good price. I always book here. I will definitely come here whenever visit Kolkata. Thanks to all the staff. Liked the atmosphere and hospitality 😊. Loved their cooperation, staff behavior, helpful, good price, location and above all they offered me their best room. Thanks to all the staff and management.

Missing buffet breakfast. It was previously available but now not offering.

Blissful

Fantastic and very energetic location. Many helpful new friends ready to please. The biggest hit was the young chap who supported us with all needs. He’s a one stop solver of all questions. Tip him big he’s fabulous.

Location is good. Close to New market.. Room size is very spacious.

Breakfast- Room delivery but the items are fixed, not variable (Luchi, boil egg, Daal vaji & Banana) Lost money, so be careful Cleanliness- Not up to the mark Took extra 400 rs in terms of booking.com confidentiality charge, don't know why? Never faced this before

Terribly bad place at a good location

Only the location.

Battered and bruised, terrible state of the entire building as well as the rooms. Things are breaking down, extremely small rooms, claustrophobia inducing room environment. Terrible. Get a hotel for half the price and save yourself the nausea.

Good Stay at Perfect Location!

Very hotel with a heritage structure, centrally located at a landmark place. Big rooms, huge doors and very friendly staff who were flexible and accommodating. The service was prompt. Reasonably priced

Very old CRT TV which we did not even switch on. The bathroom interior needs to be improved.

Excellent accommodation in a good location

We had 2 suites here, which are spacious and well furnished. The place of accommodation is absolutely great. Breakfast was also delicious. The staff is very willing, kind and helpful. We thank you. We will definitely come again. For the money we paid, it was great.

Location was good. Center point.staffs are good,polite.room is spacious and airy and clean.

Should repair/ fix the Ac, shower and lift facility. Should provide a bottle of mineral water daily atleast... Door should be fixed as well.

Spacious room at a lower cost... once-in-a-lifetime experience

You should not compare this property to any other conventional lodging in Kolkata. A once-in-a-lifetime experience is staying in this structure, which dates back almost 150 years. Additionally, those who want to travel to Kolkata for the New Market area's shopping and want to stay in a decent hotel at a reasonable price may find this heritage property to be a great choice. The answer will depend on the individual's perception of whether or not this property is being maintained well. From my perspective, everything is fine. Although the hotel has undergone numerous renovations, it still has an antic appearance. Although many things could be fixed and improved upon, the staff at the hotel is outstanding in their friendliness. Considering other hotels in the New Market area, every room in this historic building is extraordinarily spacious. You will feel unique vibes, especially given the height of the ceiling. Room air-conditioning and hot water in the shower are also available. The complimentary breakfast and dinner are simple but satisfying meals that are served in the room.

The hotel's entrance does not present a good first impression because it is filthy and practically invisible due to the footpath shop. The carpets on the stairs and in the common area are worn and need to be replaced. Not every room is of the same caliber, some rooms lack only a few amenities and fixers.

It needs renovation and to be cleaned

Laundry was completed in less than a day.

It has seen its better days and is crying to be cleaned and renovated. The hotel and the room is not clean, a lot of things are broken, its noisy, shower is not cleaned and hence does not work. We have arrived at 2am and just needed some rest, but the hotel staff kept coming to our room from the the morning and waking us up. They brought breakfast while we were still sleeping (which we did not eat as it was cold) and later kept coming to tell us to go to pay like 3 or 4 times, it's not like I will run away from my room, am I? Overall not recommending this place.

Spacious room, clean, good location. But overpriced.

Good location. Close to central part of city. Good communication.

This was my 2nd stay at this hotel. This time I was staying in a room i the 2nd floor. When I checked in everything was okay. But within an hour or two a very foul smell was coming from the toilet. It was very strong. Even after I closed the door, the smell was strong. Do not know what happened there, but it was horrible.
