Beautiful and Convenient Location, But Lacking in Hospitality

Situated on the East Bank side of Port Alfred, the location is truly beautiful and convenient — close to the Kowie Estuary, town, Kiddies Beach, West Beach and Kelly's Beach. That is the biggest plus.

However, my experience with hospitality was disappointing. I have never stayed at a place where I don't even know the name of the owner, but that was the case here. Check-in is listed as 14h00 on Booking.com, which I respect. We communicated in advance that our travelling arrangements would make us early, but when we arrived early there was nobody around to assist with luggage. We had to make an alternative arrangement until check-in time and would otherwise have been stuck at the gate with our bags. For a 6-day stay, cleaning assistance was only provided on the day of check-in. After that, there was no check-in or follow-up, and the bedding and towels were not cleaned during the entire 6-day period. The listing mentioned home facilities and essentials. Most were there, but there was no mop or anything to dry the floor. We also had to ask whether guests are allowed to wash clothes to find out if a washing machine is available. I understand we are all busy making a living, but hospitality is not just providing a place for payment. It's checking on your guests now and then, no matter how busy you are. I have booked other places before and left wanting to extend my stay because of how the owners treated me. Here, I didn't feel that. On the day of check-out, we made sure that we left the space tidy to make it easy for the helper to do thorough cleaning. We informed the owner and mentioned that we had left food for the helper. Instead of a thank you or coming to check on us before leaving, we only met when handing over the keys at the gate, when we were asked how our stay was, which felt a bit late given our experience. The place itself has potential, but there is room for improvement that the owner should consider to make the guest's experience more pleasant.

Perfect for my needs as a solo traveller, loved the deck under the forest

Great stay, loved sitting out on the deck in the forest. I was there for a conference so wasn't around much, but the place was perfect for my needs and loved being in the large garden, very peaceful

The only thing that wasn't peaceful was the herd of dogs in the neighbour's garden which often broke out in barking and howling fits
