A converted hotel located halfway up a mountain in a former monastery, making excellent use of the historic architecture. While the interior shows its age, it is impeccably maintained and thoughtfully appointed with guest convenience in mind. Guests have full access to the monastery's various sitting rooms and patios, while the expansive grounds behind the hotel feature a large outdoor swimming pool, ponds, and scenic mountain walking paths. The staff are remarkably warm and proactive in offering assistance. Breakfast is grandly served, with an impressive emphasis on pastries and desserts. Located just a short distance from the center of Guimarães, it is an ideal retreat for enjoying a tranquil and elegant stay in a historic monastery.

There are almost no flaws, though it would be nice to have a salad with green vegetables added to the breakfast.

Fabulous historic property sensitively restored. Great views and unspoiled grounds. Housekeeping, reception, bar and restaurant staff all friendly and efficient. Wide range of options for breakfast, all good. Lovely tranquil place.

The beauty, luxury and serenity of the place. The gardens are very beautiful. The building and its contents full of history and antiquity. The pool is excellent with a gorgeous view overlooking the city. The staff was wonderful.

The bed and the pillows are not comfortable. The bed is quite hard. Not a good nights sleep there.
