Château du Clos Mortier

We had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful old château twice. Once on our way to our holiday and again on our return journey, both stays were absolutely delightful. The château has a wonderful atmosphere and so much character. Our room was beautifully arranged, very spacious, with magnificent high ceilings and all the charm you would hope to find in a historic French property. There is also a lovely swimming pool and tennis court, making it a perfect place to relax after a long journey for two keen tennis players. There is no air conditioning, but for us this did not take away from the experience at all. Being such an old building, the château had its own naturally cool, refreshing atmosphere. Stepping inside felt almost like stepping into the pages of a beautiful old book: peaceful, elegant and full of the charm of another era, when life somehow seemed quieter and more serene. Pascale, the owner and hostess, made us feel genuinely welcome. Breakfast was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious - a proper French breakfast with wonderful locally produced bread and cheese, accompanied by homemade jams. It was such a lovely way to start the day. Another very practical advantage when travelling by car is the excellent on-site parking. The château has a secure gated area with plenty of space along the side of the property, so we could leave the car without any worries. And then there were the two gorgeous Labradors! One a puppy and the other older, both absolutely adorable. I simply could not stop petting and hugging these two lovelies. They added even more warmth and happiness to our stay. A huge additional bonus was Pascale’s excellent restaurant recommendations. She recommended two different restaurants to us: one which we visited on our outward journey and another on our return, both were fantastic.
