Location - as promised, I could see deer from my room
Also great for visiting Kasuga Taisha shrine and for viewing the sunset from Wakakusayama hill. No need to walk back through the park in the dark.
As a solo traveller, I found the place soulless and the other guests (all westerners) unfriendly and almost hostile. I had just come from a lovely cosy Japanese guesthouse and this was quite a contrast. I briefly saw the only member of staff at my check-in on day 1.
The kitchen area was quite neglected and smelt damp though it was full of facilities I never used. There were no shops nearby to buy food to cook up.
