The period house and furniture. Very comfortable large bed
It could have felt more welcoming. There was a for sale sign on the fence and the property was a bit hard to find as it lacked a name or number
5.0
The atmosphere at the library room, the furniture
One room for toilet and shower, uncomfortable to use by all guests

Bed eas exceptionally comfortable
Really nice bathroom with great water pressure
Toilet was a tad high

There was no breakfast just ground coffee, milk and orange juice.

the room was beautiful and clean. It was also nice and warm
I didnt see another person in the house during the entire stay. I didnt even receive a message asking me how I had settled in and if everything was ok. It was a bit unsettling coming back to a dark house each day and lonely.

The very tasteful furniture to suit this well-kept, very clean Edwardian style house.
A wide range of quality teas plus ground coffee provided. Fresh generous amount of quality milk, not UHT!
Having a king bed for us especially, (we're both tall), was heaven and brilliantly comfortable.
Being able to walk 'in the past' down that lovely corridor!
Having a microwave as well as toaster - shared in the corridor. Better value for money than most motels and way more beautiful!
The sloping drive with gravel, though it was packed down, can be a problem for oldies like us but the rest far outweighs this relatively small challenge.

As a family, we found it to be quiet, charming, clean and well-appointed and my bed was extremely comfortable with plenty of bedding for cold nights. Our host thoughtfully provided almond milk in the fridges when we requested lactose-free milk.
The air conditioning in the high-ceilinged bedrooms was extremely efficient and the outside seating (both undercover and open air) was good. The bathroom was clean and spacious.
It is a great place for family or friends, but as the bathroom is shared, it could be awkward when strangers book the 3rd bedroom.
The heater wasn't working in the only bathroom, so it would be a little icy in winter.

easy to find and park.
The shared bathroom was a bit of a pain. it kind of takes the easy out of a stay when you have to book a shower

Beautiful period house in a great location close to the town centre. A lovely mix of period charm and modern facilities, a large modern bathroom and small kitchenette shared with only one other room, so it was as convenient as if it were private use. Great outdoor dining space. Lovely!
All great. Nothing to improve.

the pictures of the property on Booking.com promising alluringly of country charm and graciousness
When one books a stay at a country place one expects certain things: a warm welcome, country hospitality, fresh produce, a smile. The website for Goldenray was enticing because it hit all those markers. That is where the welcome ended. It is a chimera, a façade to entice you to book, but, there is no welcome down its dark corridor of disappointment. In short, don’t book it!
I should have know there would be no human interaction when I got terse texts about where I can let myself in to the house. Once in, I was shocked.
There were quasi country “antiques” salvaged no doubt from the many town shops to give the mirage of country, but nothing practical. Instead I read the A4 double page “rules” which was all about directing me to tell all the guest there what time I wanted to have my allocated 15 minute shower!!! My hackles rose. This was hardly welcoming as I scanned the room.
My assigned room was apparently the storage facility for the house – a spacious closet was locked. I had no where to hang my clothes or a drawer to put my things in.
To add to the lack of practicality I had to struggle with electric outlets. In todays world, one needs more than one electric outlet, sure enough there was a second one tucked in behind the heavy bed. However it didn’t work, so I had to toggle between my laptop, my mobile phone and the only bedside lamp through the night.
Let me not remind myself of the bathroom down the dark corridor. The light switch for it is outside the door, novel I thought. The bathroom is jam packed with faux plants (plastic plants in the country! An interesting country interior design feature no doubt!). Best of all, you are not encouraged to leave your wet towel on the drying rack in the bathroom – no, you are meant to take it back and hang it on the only hook behind the door to your door!
Not to mention, there is a real estate for sale sign up infront of this house pictorially featuring its charms. So the owners basically cant be bothered

Nobreakfast included which we were aware of but plenty of cutlery crockery and kitchenette to do a perfectly fine continental breakfast if desired. The bed was super comfy and bathroom was elegant and spotless. The beautiful furnishings and antique fittings were superb.
There was nothing I could say that would make it any better

Location was beautiful, room was clean and stunning! Bathroom was big and accommodating! We had to leave early which was a shame because we could have easily stayed the extra nights but the support from Dee was incredible. Would recommend to anyone travelling to the Castlemaine area!

Felt private, quiet and homely. Fabulous coffee, excellent bathroom and added extras were quality.
A hanging/shelf space would have been handy. Wasn't happy cleaning up the bathroom every time after other guests had used it, which wasn't the owner's fault.

Breakfast not provided, however facialities were very good for tea, coffee etc. good coffee!!! My Sister In Law loved the books in the Library room, could have stayed there the whole 2 days.
The rooms were beautiful. I would have like somewhere to hang towels to dry overnight as we had to take them back to out room. some hanging space would have been convenient as well.

Our main disappointment was that we had no access to a toaster on the 1st morning & we had bought food with us that we could not use, also we could not find the ironing board

Goldenray was delightful - warm, super clean, filled with charming treasures/art of an earlier era. Our host was really responsive and so helpful. Great sleep in a really comfy bed

This is a Beautiful clean guesthouse
I loved the personal touches to the room as well as the history.
Easy instructions to access the key to the house and room.
Our room called The Sunroom was very luxurious. It was a very cold winter so we warmed up the room with the heating. Turned on the electric blanket.
We switched them.Off before bed and it was so toasty warm that we actually got hot and pushed off the blankets during the night. 🤣
The Bathroom is gorgeous with everything supplied for showering
The owner has thought of everything
An amazing luxury stay
Not sure if the mattress or topper needs replacing or adjusted. I woke the next morning with a sore lower back.
My partner and I swapped sides. I slept really well. He just said he felt his side of the bed was lower

Only tea and coffee, but microwave available in share kitchen.
Shared bathroom was comfy, well stocked, but would have loved separate bathroom and toilet to make it easier to work morning times in with other couple. Sheet was there to complete, but sometimes hard to predict timing needed the following morning, especially for toiletting
As above… separate toilet and shower, but this would require major renovation. Apart from that a comfy stay thank you
