Location was perfect - just a short stroll to the main drag of Castlemaine. Rooms were very comfortable, lounge room heater was divine - warmed the place up so quickly! The couch was super comfy and I LOVED the swivel coffee table. Really liked the door code entry system. Also loved that there was plenty of extra blankets if needed, and electric blankets on the beds (I used the former, not the latter).
The kitchen was for the main part very well equipped, but was missing a couple of items that would have been very handy to have - a colander to drain pasta, a pot with a steamer to steam vegies, and a pair of scissors to open fiddly plastic food packaging. Had to use a kitchen knife to do the latter which felt a bit dangerous. A couple more bowls and plates would also have been handy.
Also, some more power points in the lounge room would have been good. We could only find the two near the doorway above a shelf; one near the dining table and one near the couch on the far wall would be more convenient and practical.
The driveway isn't very forgiving of cars that aren't SUVs/higher profile either. It was difficult to not scrape the bottom of my Toyota Levin's front fender when going in or out. By day 2 I'd worked out driving in or out on an angle helped to avoid it, but it would be great to somehow raise the level of that dip a bit. Otherwise, I'd advise drivers of low-profile cars to be careful, or to park on the street.
Finally, I thought $1300 for three nights for two people was a bit pricey for this time of year. I guess if it was two couples it would be much affordable, but as two friends we each needed a room, which made it an expensive stay.

A charming character home within walking distance of Castlemaine township. New kitchen and bathroom a bonus in this very old house. Loved the gas fireplace which kept us toasty. The fruiting fig tree in the backyard was an unsepected bonus.
Wifi and big screen TV were excellent. Comfy beds and linens.
Everything was perfect!

The location was perfect for exploring Castlemaine by foot. The kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms were lovely.
The lounge areas felt stark and lacked any warmth or thoughtful details. A few simple additions such as books, magazines, or plants would make a big difference. For the price, we expected the living spaces to feel more welcoming.
