Waterfront Dog-Friendly Downeast Maine Cottage
About this cabin rental
Nestled in Harrington, this lovely cabin for $317 per night is a great choice for your next break. Set privately among the spruce and fir on the shore of Narraguagus Bay, the cottage offers pristine views of islands and natural marine activity. Kayaking, hiking, bird watching, reading or exploring Acadia National Park and Pettit Manan Wildlife Refuge are some of the activities available. Once here, it is hard to leave. Peace beyond belief! Pet-friendly! **Check out our amazingly immersive 3 D tour by visiting our page on Facebook. Search for "Privy Point - Down East Maine" ** Privy Point is nestled on the end of a peninsula, with water on two sides. The cottage was built in 1947 for use as a duck hunting cabin. Set on a rock outcropping, the cottage is as close as you could possibly get to the water's edge. But don't let that scare you! Its elevation protects the cottage from water intrusion. What you do get for being so close is the lovely sound of the high tidal water lapping at the rocks. It's such a soothing sound. To get here from the main road, visitors follow a dirt road almost 1/4 mile, past beautiful native fir and birch trees. Stover's Cove will be on your left. Parking is in a small lot right near the house. The main room consists of a living room area and a large table with seating for 8, facing the great window to Narraguagus Bay. The room has a working fireplace, a wicker couch and two rockers, and two day-beds that can be used to accommodate sleeping. Entry is through the kitchen, which is complete with a refrigerator, gas stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, and farmhouse sink. Dishes are washed by hand as no dishwasher is included. We're a bit rustic here, to a point! The kitchen has a skylight for natural light and to cool off the cottage during the warmer summer days. The master bedroom is located at one end of the cottage and consists of two single beds and two closets. One closet houses an apartment-sized stackable washer/dryer unit. A full-sized bathroom with a sink, shower, and toilet is adjoining this room. There are two small bunk rooms with a half bath in between them. A screened-in porch is accessed by going through one bunk room, and it has wicker furniture to seat 4-5 people. This is a favorite spot in the late afternoon. The living room has two day-beds that can be used to accommodate sleeping for two short-term guests. A deck is on the east side of the cottage, facing the water. Sunrise comes on strong and warm here, and it's a great spot to enjoy watching the lobster boat activity on the bay or to watch Bald Eagles, heron, cormorant, seals, osprey, and other wildlife. An LP gas grill is located on the deck as well as seating for 6-8 people. Off the north end of the deck is a ramp that leads to a floating dock. From here, you can catch crabs, fish, launch kayaks, or other small boats. The dock will accommodate larger boats up to about 20-24 feet or so, but mainly during mid and high tides. The float sometimes bottoms out on the sand during extreme low tides. Kayaks, canoes, and other boats are not included. A mooring may be available. Please inquire if you wish to bring a boat. A public boat launch is available in town. Strictly a summer cottage, Privy Point is available June through October. There is no heat source other than the fireplace.

Magical place. Enjoyed the old time camp experience, very well prepared for guests.

We had a wonderful time staying @ this camp for a week. The owners are very responsive on any issue. And the check in & check out process is seamless. Just a beautiful spot and the camp is very clean and well maintained. We will defiantly rent again. It has the best view.

Quiet! Secluded! Beautiful! Spent a great week with entire family, and enjoyed every minute. Cabin had everything we needed and more. Groceries and restaurants nearby. Did I mention quiet? Just the low grumble of lobster boats picking up and resetting their pots. Serene and beautiful!

Charming and perfect!
LOVED our stay at this adorable waterfront cabin. We could not have asked for anything more perfect for us. The view of the ocean out that big window, sitting on the deck soaking in the morning sunrise while watching fishing boats; watching the Milky Way at night then falling asleep to the sounds of the waves lapping on the rocks right outside the window was a dream. Kayaking, shell hunting, nature watching, cruising the coastal towns - just the perfect spot. The cabin was funky and adorable and fit us just right. Plenty of room for us to spread out or be all together in the living room. So much room in that cabin and we really do plan on returning with maybe a couple more family members in tow! Two bathrooms and plenty of sleeping space. Yes, all beds are singles, but we've been married for years, so it wasn't a deal breaker for us! LOL!
The owner was so very nice. I can't say enough about how communicative, thoughtful, and kind he was. It was perfectly clean. We did not see a mouse, but we live in the mountains and we are not stranger to mice - regardless of how fancy you think your house may be, where we live EVERYONE gets a visit from the little critters. This is a rustic, summer cabin. For any one who has had negative comments regarding seeing a mouse, I would say their expectations are not in line with reality. For us, it was the most perfect place, with the most perfect hosts, in the best time of the year and we could not have asked for more from our first visit to the east coast! Thank you for making it so great!

The cabin is rustic and beautiful. It echoes with generations of the family's love for it, and we felt truly blessed to be given the opportunity to stay there. Penny and Reg welcomed us graciously and made us feel right at home.
We spent our days watching lobstermen working their traps, drinking coffee in the cool morning sea fog, warming in the sunshine by late morning, climbing on the rocks and seeing the progression of the tides, walking the grounds glimpsing the local deer, and playing games by the fireplace in the evenings.
The location and cabin is as Rustic and "DownEast" as they come, but with the comforts of home, and is truly magical.
What a wonderful week!

If you want to get away from all the hussle and bussle this is the place to stay. But Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor is still reachable in an hour. Overall we had a wonderful stay

This is a cabin, it does not claim to be anything else! With that being said, this place was AMAZING! The views from the dinner table, the side porch, & even the kitchen sink were all beautiful & peaceful! Our visit was in late September, so with the cold nights, the fireplace was fantastic! 1/4 mile down the road (walking distance) is McCellan Park with the big rocks & big views. Up the road a bit is place to get lobsters right off the boat! We enjoyed a delicious dinner of steamers and lobster, which we prepared at the cabin. The small quaint little town of Milbridge has everything you need, but it's still close enough to Bar Harbor if this is one of your goals. We took a boat adventure with the Robertson Sea Tours, who even let us bring our dogs along. The location is private and serene. Watching the lobster boats head out daily, the beautiful sunrises, leisurely walks and the contrasting high and low tides made our days picture perfect. The house and kitchen were well stocked. There was plenty of room for our two teenage kids and two dogs. The owner's communication was great. We'll definitely be back!

My family of five stayed here -- two adults and three young children. We are fans of Downeast Maine and stayed in Machiasport the summer before at a lovely place off the grid. We wanted a shorter drive from our house so we picked Milbridge, and even though no reviews were available for this place we took a gamble. We knew the accommodations would be more cabin/cottage-y -- bunk beds and twin beds throughout, no A/C, no outdoor dining furniture. We've stayed at rustic places, so we actually appreciated some of the amenities here: working outdoor gas grill, WiFi, TV, and a washing machine. But not long after we arrived it seemed obvious the sheets weren't clean; the bedding smelled of body odor (Be aware there is no cleaning service pre check-in. The checkout instructions clearly indicate it's the previous renter's responsibility for cleaning and making beds for the next guests). Also, the sunroom wasn't swept and a general dampness was felt and smelt throughout. Mildew was noticeable on the beams of the "master" bedroom. We bought detergent at the local supermarket to wash the sheets and during the wash cycle water leaked on the floor. A few days later we noticed MICE -- two scurrying along the kitchen counters and droppings on the top of the refrigerator and on open shelving, including where the dishes and glassware are stored. We emailed the owner that night to let him know that we had enough and were leaving, halfway into our stay. His response can be characterized as more appalled by my description of the experience than sympathetic to us. After agreeing to refund half the stay he called me back a week later asking me to cover a repair to the washing machine. After I disagreed and he relented it was clear the check we received had some of this repair deducted from the total. This is a clear example of someone not very experienced at renting and unconcerned with ensuring a pleasant stay for guests. A lax approach to key maintenance and cleanliness concerns and an incredibly poor customer service approach would infuriate any renter, especially a family on vacation. I'm honestly surprised he didn't try to charge me with an exterminator bill. PLEASE PASS ON this place.
