We thought we'd found the pick of our travel stays in Albany but Big Brook Retreat beat it narrowly for best place we stayed while in WA for a couple of weeks. At this price point they are leading the class based on our stays from Albany to Perth over several weeks. New owners Michele & Jason have only been in a few weeks but they are off on a great start. The cottage we stayed in was delightful. The attention to detail here is exceptional. From UE Wonderboom speaker to Samsung TV (not that we watched) for the entertainment to new & very comfortable couches to lounge and observe blue wrens &. western rosellas, to the well appointed & spotless kitchen, choice of wood fire (with great quality wood) & very effective reverse cycle for heating comfort and a ceiling fan on winter mode the cottage was very comfortable. We brought our own machine but the pod machine (De Longhi l think) provided offered an assortment of pods & a milk frother. The bathroom & spa were well stocked with quality "stuff" (my wife would have word for it) including bubble bath for the spa. The bed was only a few weeks old (as were new couches) & extremely comfortable with a choice of pillows that suited us. The rammed earth construction is excellent for keeping heat in and I suspect out giving the heating/cooling a hand. The property is a convenient distance out of town which means it’s quiet too. Easy to get back into town for a night out or to pick up supplies, and equally easy to access the Big Brook Dam and environs for a walk amongst the Karri trees. Summer time the beach at Big Brook Dam looks to be a great location for a swim and kid friendly. The walking track around Big Brook Dam is fully sealed all the way around now suitable for wheelchairs, strollers & kids on bikes or scooters. Don't miss The Cascades, whether you get there on the tramway or by car. Beautiful spot.

Not so much we didn’t like it but some won’t. If you were trying to work WiFi is a little slow and mobile reception is sketchy. Speed tested at about 5-6Mbs download. WiFi good enough for emails & uploading/downloading files. But why would you want to work here?! I had to back some stuff up here & managed fine. Just took a little longer. Phone calls to kids via WhatsApp over WiFi were fine.

I could not fault this property. The location was beautiful. The cottage was well equipped and so comfortable. We throughly enjoyed out stay.
