Keur Niaye was the first place we stayed in Senegal and one of our most favorite. The staff, especially our host, Doudou, were the most outstanding part. Definitely take Doudou's village tour the first morning you can. In the off-season, Toubacouta can feel like a quiet, residential neighborhood you're intruding upon, but through the tour you get introduced to enough of the locals and get enough understanding of the local culture that the village quickly feels like a home.
Keur Niaye breakfasts and dinners were beyond delicious ... the best mango I have ever had in my life, local honey, jams from west African fruits like baobab and ditakh, evening fish and beef dishes spiced to perfection. The thatched outdoor dining area was welcome shade from the punishing August afternoon heat. Rooms are simple but clean with AC so cold my glasses fogged up when I left the room.
Tours are available of the mangrove swamp, taking you to shell island and the pelican roost and bird-watching tours are available on-season. Restaurants like Chez Boum, local shops for bottled water and snacks, and a path through a baobab forest are all a 5-15 minute walk away. I spent three weeks in Senegal and am so glad my travels started here!

Wat een fantastische ervaring. Van bij aankomst voel je het: gezellige sfeer, warm onthaal en oprechte gastvrijheid. Gilles en Céline verwennen je werkelijk tot in de kleinste details. Céline laat je je meteen thuis voelen, en wanneer ze piano speelt, is dat puur genieten. Het eten is SUPER-lekker, met veel zorg bereid en met liefde geserveerd. Alles klopt: de sfeer, de gezelligheid, de schitterende tuin, en de aandacht voor elk detail. Je voelt dat dit mensen zijn met een warm hart, niet alleen voor hun gasten maar ook voor de lokale bevolking. De uitstappen zijn origineel en perfect georganiseerd, met de beste gidsen. Doudou, die iedereen in het dorp kent, is een ongelooflijke bron van kennis. En dan is er nog Pape, de schipper, met zijn rust en zalige glimlach. Gilles die je na elke uitstap opwacht om te vragen hoe je dag geweest is: zulke kleine gebaren maken hier het grote verschil. Het optreden op nieuwjaarsavond was schitterend, en de fijne gesprekken aan tafel zullen ons altijd bijblijven. We hebben al veel gereisd, maar deze topcombinatie van sfeer, warmte, kwaliteit en menselijkheid is echt uniek. Zonder twijfel één van de beste plaatsen waar we ooit verbleven hebben. Een dikke dankjewel! We komen hier heel graag terug en kunnen het iedereen aanbevelen.

We had selected Keur Niaye based on the reviews we found both on Booking and Google Maps. We were not disappointed at all. Celine and Gilles, but also their staff are just wonderful. The food, as announced, was just delicious. Celine was kind enough to accommodate our diets needs in very creative manners. Gilles and his team organized beautifully, out of the box, excursions in the pristine delta nearby. We had great fun all together. The rooms were very comfortable and well kept. We had a fantastic time we will remember well.
Hardly anything to say. Our expectations were fully met.
