Staying at Suraj Haveli was one of the highlights of our time in Rajasthan and gave us an experience that no large hotel could ever replicate.
From the moment we arrived, AJ and his family made us feel genuinely welcome. We were greeted by AJ and his daughter, who gave us a traditional bindi and necklace, a lovely introduction to the warmth and hospitality that defined our stay. We were introduced to the family, all of whom were incredibly kind, friendly and welcoming throughout our visit.
The room itself was equipped to the standard you would expect from a good hotel, but what made Suraj Haveli special was everything beyond the room.
The food was exceptional. AJ's mother prepared an incredible thali for dinner that was among the best meals we ate during our trip. We also enjoyed two wonderful Indian breakfasts and, when we had an early train to catch on our final morning, the family thoughtfully prepared a takeaway breakfast for the journey.
AJ was an outstanding host and helped us get far more out of Jodhpur than we would have managed on our own. He mapped out a walking route covering many of the city's highlights, including Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada and the blue lanes of the old city. Having a well-planned route allowed us to explore confidently while still feeling like we were discovering the city for ourselves.
He also recommended Veejay's, a local restaurant that turned out to be one of the most memorable meals of our trip. It was authentic, full of local character and unlike anything we had experienced before.
For places further afield, AJ arranged a tuk tuk tour with Jai, who was a wonderful guide. Rather than just taking us to the standard tourist stops, he showed us fascinating parts of local life, including the cow hospital, stone quarries and areas where brightly coloured saris were drying. These were exactly the sorts of experiences we would never have found independently.

The accommodation was very clean and nothing was missing. They had a rooftop with very good views. The family's hospitality was what we liked the most, the homemade breakfast was delicious.

host family were so kind and welcoming, providing us with a great breakfast. room and bathroom was super clean and great views from rooftop. felt super safe and comfortable and was also in a great location. would 100% recommend and go back!
