Marboka Hotel & Suites

The Marboka is in a quiet area about 20 minute walk or less than 10 minutes from the start of Zone Romantica. The taxis are plentiful and the hotel will order one for you which arrives in less than 3 minutes and costs 100-120 pesos to go down town. The walk to town is hot and partly uphill and along a busy road. What ever people say you can’t walk along the beach to get to town. But there is a way to get most of the way there by following a road and path along the coast. The hotel is on about 7 stories or levels. 1 being where the restaurant is and 7 being above the reception area. There are no rooms at reception level or one below on level 5 where the swimming pool is which is nicely maintained clean but in the shade all day. There is a sun lounging area near to the pool. The pool is 1.5 metres deep and adjacent part is 1 metre deep. Getting in it out is limited to one ladder. The further down the rooms are on level 4, 3 and 2 the quieter they are. All rooms look north. You don’t get morning sun but you do in the evening. Level 2 had the 2 or 3 posh rooms with their own pool . Level 3 several have larger balconies with Sun loungers - these are rooms 302,303, 306,307. The others have a balcony but not a big one. Rooms are clean and bright but spartan. Cooking is on a gas/propane hob with 2 burners. A sink, good quality coffee maker, sink. No oven or microwave. Crockery and cutlery for 3-4. 2 very old frying pans, no kettle, no saucepan ( we asked for one and got one) . 1 x Chopping board, 1 sharp knife and an egg flipper/fish slice. No coffee/tea/ sugar or anything provided for washing up or drying up. But the daily housekeeping will happily do the washing up for you. Bathroom good and clean but no frills. Don’t expect a hairdryer. The hot water took a good 5 minutes to arrive but the shower pressure was fine. 2 x 5 ft beds all clean and comfy. Good quality and quiet air conditioning.

Really poor almost non existent Wifi. Pretending it has a kitchenette is a bit of an overstatement . Would help if it actually listed per room what exactly is in it . Difficult to know when you book if you get the room with the bigger more attractive balcony with sun loungers and a table or a smaller one. Try and get a room on 4th or 3rd floor unless you are paying extra for the 2nd floor one with their own pool

Location right next to great beach. Also an excellent and fun restaurant on the water that was next door to hotel.

I would have liked a sofa in the suite.

No lifts. Also, security safe did not work properly. It is not far from Zona Romantica but the road between is not easy to walk. So, you usually need to use Uber - which is cheap but sometimes difficult to find (due to low mobile network connectivity during high season).

The place was situated close to a small semi private beach so that was its main thing. Had the hotel been located one block away, it would simply not be worth the price paid considering similarly priced hotels with much better feel. Luxury price but youre only getting something a little better than Motel 8 with a view.

The place was just Mehhh. The only thing that made it worthwhile is that the hotel is steps from the beach and its not a massive or overcrowded beach. The rooms themselves were clean but the rooms looked just OK for the price point paid. I have stayed in PV many times and thought I'd change up the scenery just a little, but was not super happy with the experience overall.
