Perhaps a nice getaway for 2 people, but not for a family of 5
Out of the way (!) Beautiful nature Animals in the backyard (deer, rabbits) An original property, is you want to get away for a couple of days Quiet Good internet
It was run down. It was clear that this was definitely a labour of love, but a very incomplete DIY project. It is in the open basement with visible steps to upstairs which I assume is under construction. To get the key, ignore the key holder by the front door. Must walk around to the basement, back door. 10min of stress with no phone reception available to call the host. Mould in kettle and coffee machine. Damp on the ceiling. Cobwebs and dust everywhere. “Sleeps 5” but not enough beds, chairs, stools, cutlery, etc. for 5 people Dangerous tools, pesticides, a bathtub, etc. laying around in the garden and not cleaned-up or locked-up. It does not sleep a family of 5: - Comfortably sleeps 2 adults in the one bedroom. - My younger daughter was on the couch (that doesn’t turn into a bed). She was not happy. - My middle son was on an air mattress that didn’t stay inflated through the night. He was extremely unhappy. - My older daughter declined to stay and stayed with her grandparents at a nearby hotel. She was happy not to stay at the cabin. - No luggage / suitcase space for those sleeping in the living room. No phone reception in case of an emergency (but good internet) Minimal/No pond play or fishing things. Not sure if pond ok to play/swim in. Lots of dirty slicks in the water. Never been asked to wash linens before.

Nestled in the heart of the mountains near Boone/Blowing Rock, it is a very peaceful getaway.
Quite private and a great place to get away. Our host was very helpful and accommodating.
A little tricky to find at first. One road was not well marked, but once we found that, were just fine.

Remote, quiet, peaceful and a great getaway
The location is about 15-20 minutes outside of Boone and Blowing Rock, off a windy dirt road. The house is buried in the forest and is not within sight of any other houses. You will feel like you are totally alone and the only noise comes from the birds. There is a dedicated guest parking spot a short walk from the house. The place was spotless.
We are thankful that Lance let us park in his spot which is close to the house. It would have been less ideal, but certainly not terrible, if we had to use the guest spot. Usage of the hot tub and sauna was a significant additional fee.

Something to remember, highly recommended!A place where I must come back, with family or friends!
I love the secluded, tranquil place. I loved the social yet respectful and discreet soft skills of Lance, always available when needed. This guy knows the nature and the respect we all owe her. He knows how to host and make you feel like at your own secondary home. If you want something rustic yet comfortable and heavenly cozy, this place is definitely for you !
The access to the cabin, for newbies like me, even used to off road driving, was a bit scary, because of the steepy path (old turnpike for example). Other than that, after a couple of times, the gps became my best copilot, showing in advance the shape of the path and the dangerous curves that were coming next. I dont recommend to arrive over night in the darkness : the road is a real maze. Signs should be more visible somehow.

Absolutely the best place to stay for a couple in the area!
The location was terrific - private and remote but still very accessible to both Blowing Rock and Boone as well as plenty of hiking trails! The sauna/plunge experience was awesome - now my husband and I want to build a sauna/plunge experience to enjoy whenever we would like! The host was exceptional - friendly and knowledgeable of the area with an awesome personality and great stories to boot!
Better lighting in our apartment would have been great. As long as it was day and the sun was shining we had plenty of light. However, come evening and night (when both my husband and I like to read), the lighting was not sufficient to do so. Keep in mind we are an older couple, both wear glasses, so I'm sure that played a role in our lack of light.

The Rock is as close as you’ll get to heaven on earth!
We loved EVERYTHING about the property. The wood fired hot tub nestled beside a babbling spring creek tucked in the woods was PERFECTION! Sitting there listening to the sounds of nature toasty warms while temps were freezing was heavenly. Getting out and making s’mores by the fire pit was the cherry on top. The home was beautiful and magical. Our kids and us enjoyed the layout, the comfort and magic it had inside and out. The kids loved exploring and never picked up their electronic devices except for before bedtime. “The Rock” was obviously a favorite and so was the spring-fed pond. The deer and other wildlife we heard and saw was also very cool. Lance, the owner, was also a favorite of ours. The fireside chat was great as was our other conversations. It was like talking to a long lost friend. We can’t wait to come back in the summer and see how the upstairs renovations have progressed. Thank you for making our home away from home, home!
We loved everything!
