We did full board and it was worth it. This is one of those places that is a special treat. Everything is thought of. Yes it might be in the middle of nowhere but that is its beauty. Mind you, you are not that far from Lake Akan, just feels like it.

This property is in a truly beautiful location and we had an excellent view from our room. We enjoyed the amenities including the in-room soaking tub as well as the private onsen rooms.
The temperature of the main onsen baths was not very hot. Anyone who does not get the dinner option with their stay should be advised that there are very few dining options in the nearby town. We traveled in October and there was literally one restaurant open after 6pm in the town (many that said they were open on google were not in fact open).

We had a great stay at this hotel, lovely room with a hot spring tub in the room! And a great view over the river. The meals were excellent. Highly recommended.

It is a beautiful location.
After I had checked in I received an email saying they could not meet my expectation of a request for a pescatarian meal. I was not told this previously as the man who sent the email had "gone home" after I made my booking. No one told me my food requests were NA when I checked in either even though I brought it up again. Email came 10 minutes before dinner so I could not make other arrangements. They are very rigid - I know that is not unusual for Japan but they exceed all expectations of that here. Also the bath in the room can barely be called a bath and it is not filled for you like most places. Its also very crowded at meal times given what you pay. I would not return.
