OVERVIEW: An early 1800's stone mill sits on an island in the Salmon River between two one lane bridges. A waterfall on either side, weeping willow trees swaying in the breeze, the river alive with wildlife, a variety of birds and bountiful gardens completes the picture. You are viewing the Waterfall Retreat, an eclectic 525 square foot studio suite on the river, lower level of the mill which has a private entrance. Our mill is located in the very picturesque and historic hamlet of Lonsdale which has been the subject of many artists and photographers. The full kitchen is equipped with pots/pans, cooking tools, cutlery, etc, everything you'll need to prepare your own meals indoors or outside. We do provide you with coffee, teas, coffee cream and all the basic condiments and spices for your convenience. There are two comfy reclining chairs for watching t.v. in the sitting area and large limestone window sills in the three windows which look right out onto the river and waterfalls. The bedroom area is a cozy space with a custom made farmhouse queen size bed, a memory foam mattress, fine linens, an exposed original limestone wall and an electric fireplace for extra coziness. The 42 inch Fire television with Netflix and Prime is on a swivel and can be viewed from either the bedroom or the living area. Original hand-hewn beamed ceilings and original mill doors as well as other mill artifacts adorn the space. A private patio with a Weber barbeque, chimnea and a dining area complete with cushioned, swivel chairs is situated right outside your door at the water’s edge. AMENITIES: The Waterfall suite is situated right at the river's edge with a patio by the waterfalls for dining and relaxing. Kayaks, a canoe, motorized peddle boat, paddleboard, outdoor shower and touring bicycles are all available free of charge to our guests from mid May until Thanksgiving and a riverside hot tub under the stars is available year round for which you have private times on all the odd numbered hours. A Provincial Parks Pass is also complimentary. With waterfront on three sides, you'll likely want to spend some time on the river. It is usually high and quite fast until May and then quietens for relaxing paddles or peddles throughout the summer months and early fall. Only seasoned paddlers should use the river in May and we will only offer use of the boats at this time of year at our discretion. Swimming depends on the river levels which depends on the amount of rainfall. We reserve the right to limit or prohibit boat, bicycle or hot tub use if we deem necessary for any reason. All our amenities are fully complimentary. One bucket of wood is provided each day for use in the chimnea or firepit by the dock. Additional wood may be purchased at five dollars per bucket. You can also pick some fresh organic veggies ( in season) from our vegetable garden to complement your meals. Enjoying nature is the main occupation here. It is the river that gives this place it's magical vibe and brings the wildlife in abundance for our pleasure. Bring your camera! Great Blue Herons, Song Birds, Eagles, Osprey, Otters, Beavers, Muskrats, Geese, Ducks, Turtles and yes even snakes are all happy to call the island and the surrounding river home. (Do not interfere with the wildlife and they will not interfere with you.) A motorized peddle boat ride at sunrise or sunset is absolutely magical! The grounds are full of flowers and birds chirping and the sound of the waterfalls makes this an ideal spot to just kick back and enjoy. FALL AND WINTER AT THE MILL: In the cooler months of the year, enjoy the outdoor all season hot tub under the stars by the river and waterfall. There are many walking/hiking trails in the area and wineries in Prince Edward County that are open in the off season and many other seasonal attractions in our area during the cooler months.

The property and hosts met our expectations in every way for a second time. The snowy back drop for the hot tub was perfect. Our only suggestion is for a love seat in the sitting area so we can get super snuggly, we did move the chairs together ☺️ Thanks again for an amazing time.

The entire experience from start to finish was thoughtfully curated to ensure all our needs were met, with many added luxuries and small touches that make you feel welcome and at home as soon as you walk in the door. The suite was stunning, spacious yet cozy, and with a decor carefully integrated to elicit wonder and curiosity as you navigate each space. We really appreciated the “Welcome to the Island Mill Getaway” information binder on how to navigate amenities, the spaces, and be mindful of procedures that are relevant for maintaining such a historic space. While Jerry and Suzie are on premise or available by text, the straight-forward and easy to read information alleviated any questions we had. Across our three night stay, during the day we found ourselves exploring Prince Edward County (20min. drive) and at night returned to the Island Mill for 5pm sun sets (mid-November), BBQ-ing, soaking in the hot-tub, sitting by the fire, and enjoying Netflix movies. The little things like a clean and pristine BBQ that ignites on the first try, a prepped outdoor fire-place that just needs lighting, spices/cream/syrup available in the fridge when you realize you forgot to add those to the grocery list, or bath-robes to make your way to and from the hot-tub, helped create the most relaxing and stress-free experience. Thank-you so much Jerry and Suzie for the wonderful experience and we look forward to returning hopefully in the Spring/Summer this time.

Susie and Jerry’s home/property was absolutely beautiful, we stayed in the waterfall suite and it was beyond what we expected. They had everything you could think of and more. The outdoor seating was fantastic along with the bbq and chiminea. The view of the waterfall was amazing and the amount of wildlife we saw fantastic; Great blue herons, otters and so much else. The property as a whole was well taken care of, from the detail to the planted flowers to the garden and pond. The outdoor accommodations were easily accessible for using the canoe and kayaks from paddles and life jackets and also using the pool noodles for swimming and floating in river. Overall it was a fantastic getaway from the city, very peaceful and serene.

The downstairs suite is beautiful and very comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped. The patio is right at the edge of the river with a great view. The kayak ride up the river is incredibly peaceful. You can walk in the south arm if the river quite a ways. Suzie and Jerry were great hosts who put an incredible amount work and passion into the grounds. We enjoyed the freah lettuce and herbs for our nightly meals. 100% recommended.

What a wonderful oasis. Incredible attention to detail throughout. This waterfall suite was a perfect base for exploring PEC from wineries and breweries to Sandbanks Provincial Park. We even caught a pickerel in the river while trolling in the electric peddle boat. Thanks so much Suzie and Jerry.

The owner of the property charged me damages due to stains in the sheets and duvets. I used an massage oil for my back and I believe we may have left some residue in the sheets. Which can be easily removed with a single wash. Another thing that surprised me is that the host complained that I left dishes and my breakfast in the checkout date on the table. Yes. I did. I was there to enjoy the time with my partner and the 11:00 checkout time is to give the host time to clean it. Besides, there is a fee for that. Why would the host expect me to clean everything before I leave. If it were to leave it clean, I should be able to check out later and not fee should be charged right?

This property blew us away! It's a must-experience location that I will be recommending to everyone I know. The description, reviews and photos from other travellers got me so excited to visit, but none of that can do justice to what it's like to actually be there. The owners did such a great job of highlighting the mill and surrounding area's heritage through the decor and reading material provided in the apartment. We will definitely come back to experience this place in all of the seasons.
