Maine Luxury Lakehouse Awaits your Visit-Days are Simple and Relaxed.
About this house rental
Located in Wayne, this attractive house for $800 per night is a great option for your next vacation. Indulge in the epitome of Maine luxury living at our breathtaking lakefront estate, Loon Song. Nestled along the serene shores of Androscoggin Lake, facing Mt. Washington, this magnificent retreat sits on nearly 3 acres and promises days filled with simplicity and relaxation, making it the perfect destination for families, reunions, and athletes seeking tranquility, adventure, and training alike. Named for the majestic loons that grace our waters, Loon Song provides a close and rare connection to nature. With their serene and haunting calls echoing across the lake (and often 30 feet from our shorefront) these beautiful birds enhance the peaceful atmosphere, truly embodying the essence of our retreat. Embrace the beauty of lakeside living at our meticulously restored 1906 Victorian sanctuary. Awaken to the gentle caress of the lake’s breeze as you step onto the balcony from the master bedroom. Below, an expansive 30ft. porch awaits, offering panoramic vistas of the magnificent mountains of New Hampshire and Maine from a different vantage point. Surrounded by lush floral gardens, this enchanting retreat promises an idyllic escape into nature’s embrace. Every modern convenience was built into our home while making sure that the 118-year-old antiquity remained. With accommodations for 12-14 guests, including the large master king-size bedroom with a private porch offering exquisite lake views, a second king-size bedroom, and a custom bunk room, every aspect of comfort is meticulously curated. Step into our outdoor kitchen, complete with a wood-fired oven, gas, and charcoal grills, under cabinet refrigerator, and two burner stove top. Immerse yourself in the art of artisan cooking amidst the picturesque surroundings. From homemade pizzas to rustic bread, every dish is infused with the flavors of the outdoors, creating unforgettable culinary experiences for you and your loved ones. The heart of the home lies in the expansive gourmet kitchen, boasting a Viking stove/oven, a large stainless-steel fridge, and a country farm sink, alongside an extensive array of cooking utensils and appliances. Entertainment knows no bounds at Loon Song, with full access to an art studio, supplies, and a woodland performing stage for the young and creative souls. Safely dive into the tranquil and warm waters of Androscoggin Lake from our docks or floating raft. With our fleet of kayaks, take the family for an adventure to nearby islands or in-town waterfall or follow the sunset with our large antique canoe. Bring your boat or rent a boat to enjoy the great fishing, water skiing, or tubing and enjoy complimentary access to our boat slip and dock. Our lake is a beacon for bass fishermen as well as abundant white perch for all ages. Our protected, private beach is perfect for the little folk as the depth is very gradual. One major and unique feature of Androscoggin Lake is the fact that it is sparsely populated, yet only 25 minutes from Augusta, our state capital. To preserve the solitude of Lake Androscoggin jet skis are not allowed. For the adventurous spirits, explore scenic mountain roads on bikes or trek the mountain trails on foot. Loon Song also serves as an excellent base for skiers, offering easy access to nearby slopes. Our proximity to the lake is perfect for ice fishing as it does not require a separate ice hut or tent. Additionally, our expansive grounds and amenities make it an ideal spot for reunions, providing ample space for gatherings and creating lasting memories. Our property and our beautiful town of Wayne welcome those families and their friends training for marathons, biathlons, and triathlons. New to our estate is an authentic large 20 ft diameter tepee for sleeping and relaxation, offering a unique and immersive experience amidst the natural beauty of the surroundings. We converted a 118-year-old icehouse into an eclectic art studio and furnished all the tools needed to create your own Picasso. The studio's couch opens into a comfortable double bed providing a cozy retreat for that perfect "get away". Experience the beauty of Loon Song in every season, from the vibrant blooms of spring to the fiery hues of fall, the balmy days of summer to the serene snowscapes of winter. Awaken your senses and nourish your soul at Loon Song, where the beauty of nature and the comforts of home converge to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Our extended family group had such a lovely time here! Our hosts Alberta and Bill were attentive to our needs but always respectful of our privacy. Thank you for setting up and showing us how to use the wood-fired pizza oven. Best pizza ever!
Other favorite activities were kayaking and swimming in beautiful Androscoggin Lake, fishing off the dock, hunting for frogs, an impromptu performance on the Loon Song stage, sitting. and talking on the screen porch and listening to the magical Loon Song from the lake!
We also enjoyed a camp out in the teepee. Trips to the farm stand for the best berries and Ice cream from Tubbies.
We will have fond memories of this vacation for years to come.

The pictures don't do this place justice! The location, privacy, lake, yard, art studio, beach area and the amazing outdoor kitchen are a combination unlike any other lake house I have rented. Bertie and Bill (the owners) were beyond welcoming and truly wanted to ensure we have a wonderful week.
We had 3 families with kids ranging from 2-10. We spent the week enjoying the lake, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, using the art studio, playing baseball games in the yard, and enjoying family breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the outdoor kitchen.
LoonSong is amazing!

I don't know where to start - everything was fabulous! The house is beautiful and situated perfectly on a calm, warm lake. Bill and Alberta greeted us when we arrived and were wonderful hosts. They live in a separate house on the property and so are available when you need them and leave you to enjoy your own vacation when you don't. Our family of 5 were very comfortable through our whole stay. We enjoyed swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, star gazing, roasting smores, fishing, boating, picking veggies in the garden, painting in the art studio, catching frogs, listening to the loons, reading on the screened in porch, having drinks on the chairs above the rocks, sleeping with the windows open, watching our kids put on dance shows on the stage, taking day trips to the shore and mountains, and much much more. We have stayed in many nice VRBOs and have taken many great vacations in our lives. But I do think this one was our favorite. Now that I'm writing about it, there's nothing I want more than to go back! Time to start looking at the calendar...

Tremendous spot for our two families with small children (0-10 years old). Highlights included: 1) a small sandy beach for swimming, sand play, and putting in the kayaks and row boat, 2) a wonderful outdoor kitchen and eating area - in addition to both gas and charcoal grills, there is also a beautiful stone wood oven which we used for pizzas, chicken, and bread making, 3) large screened in porch with dazzling views of the water, 4) well appointed kitchen with both high quality cookware and basic ingredients, 5) separate artists studio with supplies that we used for painting and clay making (as well as a sleeping space for our infant), 6) large lawn for playing games on (croquet, cornhole). Can't recommend this place more.

We rarely write reviews but felt inspired to do so for this property. The outdoor space was just beautiful and fun. We enjoyed the outside dining area with several grills and picnic tables, as well as the lake and the kayaks and paddle boards that are available. The gardens and artists shed are extra bonuses. The outdoor shower was a hit with our kids after a day on the lake. Most of all we cannot say enough good things about Bertie and Bill, the owners. Their sincere hospitality makes this a wonderful place for families.

Great rental for our annual fishing trip on lake Androscoggin. Plenty of room for six people and a very comfortable home. The owner was onsite and super helpful as he had to work to get the docks in place for our 3 boats after having them damaged over the winter. Would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing lake front stay.

The Loon Song house on Androscoggin Lake is one of the most beautiful lake houses we've ever seen. It was roomy and homey, and we almost felt like we were living in a house that belonged to us. My wife, Pat, and I were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary with our two children, their spouses, and our four grandchildren, and we could not have found a more perfect place. Pat and I had the master bedroom on the second floor, complete with a balcony that overlooked the lake. Every morning, we'd get coffee downstairs and then come back up and sit on the balcony, enjoying the view. There was a beach with a nice swimming area, kayaks, and a canoe, but two of us have our own canoes, so we were all able to go out canoeing whenever we wanted. Nearby was a small nature preserve with a nice hiking trail, and we took advantage of that as well. Our son fished off the dock, our youngest grandson had a ball capturing frogs (and releasing them), our teenage grandchildren enjoyed sleeping in, and our daughter did her best to keep up with her two and half year-year-old bundle of energy (a girl, of course). About a 15 minute walk away was Tubby's, known for their homemade ice cream and lobster rolls, both of which were amazing. Try the "Wholey-Moley, which is a combination of molasses and peanut butter. Delicious! As a family, we played games, ate together, talked and laughed, but there was ample time for everyone to follow whatever individual pursuits they wished to do. Our hosts, Bill and Bertie Messor were the nicest, most wonderful folks. They had a house next door, and tried to keep a low profile. I had to badger Bill into playing a game of horseshoes because I like to play but seldom get a chance. There was a great outdoor eating area, complete with a large gas grill, as well as a charcoal grill and a stone oven for making pizzas. Also on the property was an outdoor stage (the youngest kids put on a short "pioneer" play), and nestled among beautiful flowers, and next to a small pond with water trickling over rocks, was a charming art studio that had a sofa bed, where our son and daughter-in-law chose to sleep. All-in-all, this truly was the best decision Pat and I made as the way to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We had a glorious time and the week simply flew by. Loon Song house is the perfect get-away. Thanks, and our heartfelt appreciation to Bill, Bertie, and their daughter, Natalie, who handled the reservation.

Characterful Maine lake house
My family and I had a lovely weeklong stay here. The property was charming and the hosts (living next door) were gracious and generous. Our three kids (ages 8, 6, 4) had so many activities right from the front door (catching frogs, playing on the beach, swimming in the lake, painting in the art studio, performing on the little stage, not to mention fishing and boating with their dad) that I found myself with time to relax in the lovely lake breezes. Highly recommend!

Terrific Maine family vacation house
The lake was exactly what we were looking for in our Maine vacation, and the little beach made it easy for the kids to access the water.
You can tell from the pictures that the house is fascinating! We had our family of four and two sets of grandparents there for the week and it was comfortable for all of us (which was no small miracle). My sister-in-law and her husband also stopped by and stayed in the convertible bed in the art studio. The kitchen is great and the pizza oven outside was fun to use. Nothing quite like having your morning coffee on the porch and watching the water.
The kids loved all the things to do in the house, especially the art studio. We made a daily pilgrimage down to the Wayne's famous ice cream shop to cap off each day.
Our hosts were exceptionally gracious, and went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. I was personally very grateful to them.

Disappointing experience - can’t recommend this rental property
This year, I decided to rent Loon Song, even though the rental rate was more than twice the price I had been paying for another rental on the lake. I expected this to be an outstanding rental and was excited to share it with my family.
Unfortunately, the bad news started on Saturday morning when Natalie called me to let me know the cleaning company would not have the house ready at 4 PM - it would be closer to 4:30 PM. She also told me the gas grill in the outdoor kitchen wasn’t working but that her father would bring over a portable gas grill. The house wasn’t ready at 4:30 but the owner agreed to waive the cleaning fee, which was acceptable. The portable gas grill needed to be pressure washed and was not available for another day or two. The outdoor kitchen was dirty and in a state of disrepair. The gas grill and refrigerator were not working and we would have to wait for Althea to return on Tuesday or Wednesday to learn how to use the pizza oven. That lesson never happened.
During the walk through of the house, there were burnt out lights in a ceiling fixture and the fan in the downstairs bathroom didn’t work. As I unloaded the car, the owner handed me a box of light bulbs. For the price I was paying, I should not have to change out lightbulbs.
The septic alarm under the house went off twice. On Tuesday morning the owner came over to reset it. He then said he would teach me how to reset it before he left on a trip. That didn’t happen (and I shouldn’t have to do this). On Thursday night at 10:30, it went off again. Althea came over and said that I was having such bad luck that week but the good news was the money they got from the rental was helping children in Guatemala. No customer empathy (my vacation week was being impacted) and a completely tone deaf response to a major problem. Friday afternoon we came off the boat to learn more bad news - the bathrooms could not be used due to septic system repairs but we could use the bathrooms in the house next door.
This was a disappointing week. The outdoor kitchen was non-functional. The pictures on the website show a much brighter interior and much “cleaner” wall space. The walls and shelves are filled with family photos, figurines, steins, etc. It is not a house where I would be comfortable hosting my young nieces and nephews. The positive feature of the house was the screened-in front porch. That’s where we spent most of our time.
Given the issues, I can’t recommend Loon Song as a rental.

Loon Song...what a magical place!!
It is the perfect location to gather a large family. We were there to celebrate my daughter's Bates Graduation. Alberta and Bill greeted us upon arrival and went above and beyond to make our trip special. The view of the lake is breathtaking!
We kayaked, fished, and swam daily. We even cooked up the fish that we caught! Following spectacular sunsets, we would dine al fresco at the beautiful tables. Then, we would enjoy s'mores around the fire pit. The outdoor pizza oven was a big hit...a fun way to get everyone involved. The house is well equipped with everything necessary. The property is well maintained and filled with gorgeous flowers. We also enjoyed daily walks to Tubby's for outstanding lobstah rolls and ice cream.
It was truly a vacation we will never forget!!

The owners are wonderful and go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. There were homemade pickles and bread waiting for us on arrival! The setting is beautiful and there are endless activities for all ages. The house is very clean and comfortable and fully stocked. My family hopes to return and we highly recommend this amazing rental. Thank you for a wonderful stay!!!

Exceptional lake house with well-equipped kitchen.
Enjoyed our stay immensely. The home is styled in the old camp tradition. Lots of books and games. Bill and Alberta are very hospitable--they dropped off a pie and homemade strawberry ice cream and a jar of pickles. Our family also picked enough blueberries to make a pie! We walked with the teenagers almost daily to Tubbie's for ice cream. Explored short off road walk. Spent hours upon hours kayaking and paddleboarding (paddle boards delivered by Beacon Boat Rentals). One day we had the whole huge lake to ourselves. Another day we went via water to black sand beach for a picnic. Early morning coffees on the screened porch is a must. Pizza oven was used three times during our stay. Great place to get away.

Loon Song was a superb week-long event for our extended family!
The convenience, beauty, roominess, & home-iness of this outstanding lakeside exclusive cabin-lakehouse-home and the hospitality of owners
Bill and Alberta Messer cannot be improved upon! That also included my
six grandkids from SC and CA, ages 13-20 who especially loved the kayaking and playing both the old-fashioned upright piano and the pump organ, both in excellent condition--AND sleeping in the large and roomie "dorm room" upstairs. Our only wish was that we could have stayed longer. As Bob Hope said, "Thanks for the memories"... of our 50th wedding anniversary and reunion with our very best and oldest friends and family "from away" as we say here in Maine. 5 bright and shining stars for Loon Song!

Family reunion
Family reunion of three generations and over 10 people at a time was great!! Alberta and Bill Messer were generous with their time and experience. We most appreciated learning how to use the outdoor pizza oven and our one pizza dinner was a huge success. Everyone had fun making their own pizza and every pizza was eaten. It's amazing how quickly they cooked.
Swimming was comfortable for all and the offshore floating deck was a hit. Fishing from the dock resulted in one cusk but none of us are avid fishermen. Kayaks, canoe and a big bulky rowboat were available.
The art studio was used by one couple of the oldest generation and they were comfortable inspite of having to come to the main house to use the bathroom.
The children were challenged and happily busy all the time. Indoor toys, beach toys, outdoor stage, costumes, frog ponds, ice cream parlor within walking distance and lots of books for bedtime stories.
This house if stuffed with family memorabilia, antiques and cookwear. We lacked for nothing except more kitchen shelf space to put our groceries.
This was a wonderful family experience.

Charming lake house
The house was so great for my grandchildren. They caught fish off the dock and had a great time in the water. Screened in front porch was great place for listening to the loons at sunset and sharing a glass of wine. My daughters said it was our best vacation.

Treat Yourself to this Magical Maine Luxury Lakehouse, Town of Wayne and scenic Lake Androscoggin
I have been visiting Wayne, ME since the late 1960's and each time I learn more about it and appreciate my time there more. This Maine Luxury Lakehouse is owned by owners Bill and Alberta Messer who were wonderful hosts seeing that all details to make our stay enjoyable were handled. The Lakehouse comfortably accomodated our twelve adult guests, is located on 2 1/2 acres with 300' of lake frontage. The grounds and 3 separate buildings reminded me of a page from the children's book Hansel and Gretel-beautiful manicured with trees, flowers, and a small pond.
The front screened-in porch facing the beautiful western sunsets was our favorite location allowing us to feel the constant breeze while viewing the gorgeous lake. Activities included kayaking and canoeing (provided by owners), swimming, tennis and soccer/tennis at the nearby Ladd Recreation Center, Chubbies for ice-cream, foot-log hotdogs and lobster rolls, Lakeside Pottery for gifts, The Winterplace Farm in Leeds for winning cheeses and viewing their small herd of stunning Nubian goats with their white ears, Stevenson's fruit and vegetable stand in Winthrop, shopping at Hannafords in Winthrop, Lighthouse Lobsters and steamers in Manchester, Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Shaw's Restaurant on a pier in New Harbor, Boothbay Botanical Gardens, discovering the Dead River (Egrets, turtles and) from our 14' rented boat (Beacon Boat Rentals in Wayne), viewing Androscoggin Lake from Morrison Heights Road, cooking on the amazing barbecue and listening to the choir practice of the loons in the evening.
In addition, the house was clean and maintained, the owners took care of all the details, and I highly recommend this marvelous vacation house to all. Do yourself, family and friends a favor and introduce everyone to Wayne, ME and its miraculous little town and magnetic surrounding area.
Thank you Alberta, Bill and Natalie for our special week!
