Still Waters Artistry is one of those rare places that completely exceeds expectations.
The property itself is beautiful, peaceful, comfortable, and an exceptional value, especially considering how convenient it is to CMB airport. But what truly sets it apart are the owners. They are among the most gracious, thoughtful, and genuinely service-minded hosts we have encountered anywhere in our travels.
From the moment we arrived, we felt less like hotel guests and more like people being welcomed into someone’s home. Every interaction felt sincere and personal, and their hospitality was never forced or transactional.
We have stayed at much more expensive resorts during this trip, and yet Still Waters Artistry remains one of the places we have enjoyed most. The combination of comfort, atmosphere, value, and extraordinary hospitality is very difficult to beat.
Negombo also turned out to be far more interesting than we expected. The Saturday morning fish market was absolutely incredible and is something we would strongly recommend to anyone staying here over a weekend.
We enjoyed our stay so much that we have already booked Still Waters Artistry again for our final night in Sri Lanka before flying out of CMB.
For anyone looking for accommodations near the airport or in Negombo, this should be at the very top of the list.

Accommodation - The accommodation is EXCELLENT, a real standout! Architecturally amazing. The interiors are equally as amazing. Very thoughtful and eclectic. We stayed in a room on the 2nd floor with a skylit shower, it was beautiful. The bed, air-conditioning and shower were very comfortable too. Loads of books for readers, aside from that not much on property to do other than relax. its a great place for a slow start or ending point of your holiday.
Host & Attractions - Negombo isn't crazy big on things to do, as its often a transitionary point for most tourists, however Ashane recommended us to some lovely places to visit and eat and drink (Fish market: messy, chaotic and alive and beautiful old church St Mary's). Ashane and his wife as hosts were wonderful, and if you care to sit down a little while, lovely conversationalists as well. They took their time to curate every single detail, and when you check out, you get to do a wonderful little art activity with them.
Food - We did not get the breakfast from the accommodation, Tea and Coffee are served complimentary. You can order food from the nearby restaurant through Ashane. We ordered a feast of Basmati rice, Paneer butter masala, Vegetable Kottu, Hot Butter Cuttlefish (best I had in the country for 14 days) and Black Mutton curry, all for a total of approx $30 USD for 2 people (10,000 LKR), we wouldn't say its cheap, but you really get high quality food if thats what you're looking for. Outside of the accommodation, we also had a lovely sit down fine dining experience at CLUB Ceylon which makes visiting Negombo worth it, as its actually the best seafood (European-style) restaurant in the whole of Sri Lanka.
There wasn't much that me and my partner did not like. Power outages sometimes did happen, as throughout Sri Lanka, but never for long. Ashane was always a text away and power kicks in again pretty quickly.

Ashane and his wife were very welcoming and helpful with everything during our stay. First time in Sri Lanka and they really set the bar high for the rest of our trip. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and to start off our honeymoon.
