Ho'ohauoli is located on a quiet street in the community of Hawaiian Shores, only a few minutes from Pahoa Village's great restaurants, shops, and entertainment and six blocks from the ocean front. The cliffside Kahakai Park is only six blocks away, where you can relax on the lawn, sit along the cliffs, and listen to the ocean waves crashing on the shore. You'll also be close to the historic town of Hilo (22 miles north) and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (44 miles west).

House is fully furnished with a well-stocked kitchen in a quiet and comfortable neighborhood. The location is somewhat inconvenient — most places of interest are going to be outside lower Puna (including groceries), but there is only one major road in and out of the area, which gets busy during rush hour. We appreciated the lanai on the house, which was enjoyably breezy (especially with the stocked mosquito coils to avoid getting bitten) when the main house got hot mid-morning. We (as Californians) found moisture management quite important in the damp weather on the Hilo side of the island, frequently opening windows and using the fans in the unit to avoid the "damp" smell you can otherwise get.

The home was great for us. The temps were cool and the fans and open windows were sufficient. We did not cook in the home but it looked to be equipped for anyone who does. The lanai was very peaceful and a great place to have your morning coffee or to wind down in the evenings. The owners were very responsive with the listing and all information was communicated well.

The area was ok and the lanai was lovely. It was nice to have 2 bathrooms. It was very warm and there was an off putting smell in the house. We took pictures of the less than clean bathrooms and some other areas. If this had been a hotel, we would not have stayed, but we felt stuck having booked the place for 6 nights. Our second vrbo for the second half of the trip feels like a breath of fresh air.
