Ashdown Park Hotel

The hotel staff were welcoming, plenty of easy parking and reception warm and welcoming. The room was well equipped with iron, hairdryer and everything down to water, biscuits and a shoe shine. Bed comfortable with huge pillows. The views are amazing, the walks locally were stunning and perfect if you want a short or longer walk.

We didn’t book breakfast in our room price as was unsure of timings we has for other plans, but to order breakfast would have been £32 each.

Food was excellent but room service for adults was limited (kids menu room service was incredible).

The grounds and location are great with some beautiful walks. The Spa facilities are good and the hotel has some interesting features and character. Main restaurant evening food and service was fantastic with lovely views and a grand piano playing in the background to create a nice ambience.

Staff on arrival were not friendly, unhelpful and didnt even acknowledge that this was a special occasion for us . In addition we paid handsomely for a suite but that didn’t seem to matter either. I requested ice and glasses and after asking reception twice for them and waiting two hours I eventually had to go down to get it myself. Room service were not even answering their phone. The lunch area and bar was not cleaned quickly enough after guests departure and we had to ask for a table to be cleaned and cleared. This appears to be a common problem here. Seemed understaffed due to a couple of events but this should not impact other paying guests. Our room could have been cleaned better with more attention to detail for example the phones wiped clean and dusted. Allow people ro enjoy more time in the restaurant without the pressure of each course being quickly followed by the next.

Cleanliness excellent and comfort excellent. Location amazing. Staff friendly and helpful.

Bar drinks and snacks far too expensive for the same you can get elsewhere. 12.5% service charge over the top. Very weird to have to order starter, main and pudding as soon as seated. As generally dont know if you will want a pudding until after the main course.
