This place appears to be slowly improving, but the Vallérsgatan location should REALLY be a separate listing…

The host appears to be making an effort and listening to feedback, as some past reviews have been addressed. The shower was great and the beds comfy. The location was clean inside and out.

The apartments at Vallérsgatan should really be a separate Booking.com listing. We were among many who have booked our stay thinking we were staying within the walls, only to get there, read our private message carefully, and see that we have a 20-minute walk to our actual destination. A separate listing would be a lot more honest and doubtless save the host and future guests a great headache, even if it is much less attractive than the current location… We stayed in the room listed currently as “Apartment” and found that the WiFi was plugged into a dead socket and had to be switched to another in order to power on. A note containing the password would also be appreciated, as not everyone knows to check the back of the router (hidden behind the TV) to find it. We also wish that the washing machine in the photos was installed. I know now that it was not listed in the facilities, but so prominent a photo had got our hopes up. The place feels a bit unfinished in general: there is the aforementioned dead socket and washing machine, and the extractor fan in the kitchen is not connected to anything! We had a poor first impression and a needlessly painful welcome to Visby, but I believe that the host is actively working on it and wish them and future guests the best.

Very good location, easy to find and easy check-in /checkout, a flat for cooking / restaurant visits

The location in central Visby, about 20 minutes on foot from the ferry, 10 minutes from a big supermarket and 3 minutes from the nearest bike rental was very good! The restaurants and shops just down the stairs was a big plus!

There was a few problems: We wrote that we were 3 persons, but the bed linen and towels were for two. (They fixed it the next day, but we had to share for the first night...) There was only two chairs by the kitchen table. (We borrowed one from the balcony...) The locking devices on the kitchen window fell of when we tried to close it. One leg on the sofa was missing. There were too few light bulbs in the kitchen lamp. (3/6) The restaurant downstairs started cooking food with lots of garlic around 9 AM and cooked throughout the day and night. They also deep fried or fried fish all through the opening hours, and these smells floated in through the open windows and up the stairs.

DIRTY room, bad owners and shady business

The location was good and the key pickup and drop was somewhat easy to do. The host communication BEFORE arriving was really good (prepared, prewritten message), compared to what happened next....

There was a severe sewage/plumbing smell just as we entered room S1 as if no one had stayed there for a while or they didnt clean the drains. We had issues contacting the renters as they had CANCELLED the phone number provided and didnt answer on mail. At last, we got hold of the service/cleaning company for the apartments which said that there should be no issues in the room and didnt seem to believe us, however we got them to send a guy and they said they will call back. We then came back to the room by 22-23 and it was the same issue and no one seemed to have been there. We now found more stuff, there was sticky goo all over the showerhead and mount, there was stains on one side of the sheets in the bed, there we're dirt in cupboards as if no one had cleaned them, there was black dust (looked like black mold) at several spots in the shower that released debris when touched. I talked with the service company again and told them that I wanted a new room or compensation for the bad state the room was in. They said that they had sent guys to check on the room thought that it was nothing wrong, but acknowledged that there was sticky construction glue in the shower that they were supposed to fix but hadn't and tough luck to us. They refused to meet half way and refuted any complaints and told us to talk to the ones in charge of renting it out. They renters never replied on email or phone, and I had to contact Booking which got the story and photos of all things bad. The renters then talked with Booking and just replied the same way as the service company did (probably the same guys).

It's a nice stay. I had my wonderful time.

The owner was very good, I forgot where I put the keys of apartment but he came in the night and open it. Have me his key. I the last I found my key. He is super nice. People in Gottland are really nice. It's a nice experience. The location of the apartment is perfect. Bus stop is just 5 minutes close and all very good restaurants are close by.

A very small thing, the dish wash detergent could have been provided for washing the dishes.

Exceptional

Remote check-in and check - out ( key box with the code by email ) Easy to find. Not far from everywhere. Quiet and clean area. Comfortable bed. Apt has everything you need. I liked to have two big windows- day light it's always great. I ' d like to get back to Visby during a summer. Definitely I' d stay again at this place.

Good value in great location

Location was good. Accommodation was spacious and facilities perfectly adequate. Instructions for key code entry worked fine. Bed was comfy. All in all the property was very reasonable for the amount it cost

Despite trying to adjust the radiators, the room temperature was bizarrely too hot considering it was November. There was noise outside with bins emptied at an early hour each day but this is obviously not anything the property owner can control

WARNING! Do NOT stay here!

Do NOT stay at this hotel! At least one of the apartments is infested with bed bugs which the owners knew about! I have stayed at Boende Visby several times and I have always thought that it was ok for a budget hotel. However, during my last stay I woke up in a bed infested with bed bugs. I immediately called one of the owners and he was understanding and apologetic and tried to find a solution. After several hours, I was told I could move to another apartment and they would make sure to have all of my clothes cleaned, dried, and folded at the end of the day (to minimise a potential spread). When I came back from work in the evening, I was greeted by a paper bag containing all of my scrunched up, wet clothes. With no clean and/or dry clothes for work the next day, I checked-out and demanded my money back. Boende Visby agreed to this but their handling of this was horrendous. Booking.com had to get involved, Boende Visby refused to answer my messages, and after 3,5 weeks of angry e-mails, phone calls, and text messages, I finally got my money back. I would like to believe I am a reasonable person and I understand bed bugs can happen at the best of places. However, I was told by one of the hotel’s staff that they had had the same issue the previous week in the same apartment. So apparently they knew about the bed bugs, did not sanitise the room, rented it out again, and flat-out lied to my face when they told me this had never happened to them before. As for me, I got between 200 - 300 bites which caused an allergic reaction which needed medical care. I lost valuable work time and sincerely hope you will spend your money elsewhere. Do NOT stay at Boende Visby!

Visby is a quaint town but don’t stay at Boende.

Location of new apartment ok

Arrived late after midnight, ferry delayed. No room number on key in Boende appt so slept in another room, the only other key in the safe box. Owner took us next morning to completely different apartment, not Boende. So, a total cock up and we could have been stranded if the other key wasn’t there. Didn’t answer phone. Messaged from ferry for directions,none given,just key in box. Final apartment was ok but get your act together and think more about your clients! Would not recommend.

Location is excellent if one wishes to visit the Visby old town.

The room we had was showing signs of wear. Somewhat broken shower and toilet seat. The roll down curtains weren't wide enough to cover the window so being there near the midsummer meant that the room was really bright as soon as the sun rose at 4am.

Great location and value for the price

Location was great. A decent, clean and convenient apartment for half the average price in Gotland. Very close to everything.

Bathroom looked a bit too old, although nothing critically bad (still nice and clean).

A great budget option in the perfect location.

Perfect location. A great budget option. The hosts were very nice and flexible.

Small, loud ventilation (can't turn off), very slow and unreliable Wi-Fi (0.5-1 MB/s), bed quite soft (fortunately the sofa was nice and hard), some fittings were broken. Has a very distinct budget feel to it, but you can't beat the price for this location - right in the middle of medieval Visby.
