The apartment was as expected, Jako our host was most helpful with remotely letting us into the apartment and helped us with queries. The apartment is quite well equipped, it is very clean and there were nice linen and towels, extra blankets and the WIFI was good. It's a short walk to the main lagoon complex and the children's park. Security to the complex is high and we felt safe. It's really only perfect for a couple - there are small gym mats for young children - although my girls took sleeping bags and pillows - A sofabed would be a worthwhile investment, whereby 2 more guests could comfortably sleep.
One really nice element was the diversity at the complex, rarely seen and we enjoyed the mix.
The rules at The Blyde are a little frustrating - not allowed to leave the lagoon without shoes/flipflops, Games Room either crowded or closed, no refreshments at all available by the lagoon. Check in cannot be a minute before 2pm, the most frustrating thing is that on the day of departure you can't use the lagoon, we knew this in advance, but seeing the lagoon EMPTY on a national holiday as most people had stayed Saturday and Sunday nights was v frustrating. The restaurant food is greasy and service is poor and slow. The Games Room, which our children were looking forward to using, was dominated by adults during the day and closes before 8pm in the evenings. The shop was also very disappointing, basically sold crisps, ice cream and swimsuits. The only way to get full benefit of the lagoon (which is AMAZING and lifeguards are attentive and friendly) is to book 2 nights' accommodation - so you then get a day and a half of being able to use the lagoon.
I think that owners should lobby the management company to adjust the rules re lagoon access for the day of check out. Also consider a waiter service for drinks by the lagoon, that would be super nice. We had friends who stayed in another apartment for the Saturday night and they were so disappointed that they didn't even sleep there, such a shame. Lots of rowdy people who don't consider other people's space.
This place has HUGE potential but needs to think about the whole client experience, which at the moment is missing.
