Where to start is the question. Shalob was attentive from the moment we booked. His attention to detail is unquestionable. The entire premises is focused on renewable practices and gentle on the landscape. It is situated privately along the sacred enlivening Alaknanda, a Himalayan river in the Indian state of Uttarakhand and one of the two headstreams of Ma Ganga, also known as the Ganges. It would be remise of me not to mention the attention to meals. Absolutely superb, organic and locally sourced ingredients. We travelled as a group and everyone unanimously voted to return and extend their stay, deducting a night off elsewhere. In the past years we had always favoured Rishikesh, however it has become very crowded and busy. Hence this is where I would recommend to spend a few days soaking in the ambience of peace and beauty. Perfect for travellers visiting sacred sites in the region.
What I did not like was leaving! The following is tips, not a dislike. Shalob will advice you where to park and or where a taxi drops off. Staff will meet you to carry luggage. From there is it a lovely little forested pathway to the accommodation and Alaknanda River. The site is undisturbed and walking along the river is easy. They also offer kayaking expeditions.

The owner is a wonderful host. The place is comfortable clean and the staff is excellent. Food served is fresh, tasty and wholesome.

We felt absolutely relaxed! The staff takes such good care of you. The room had rustic styling but was large and had everything we needed. The owner, Shalabh, was so easy to talk to and so helpful. The property is located along the river and while you have to traverse a long set of stairs to get there (hard to find the stairs in the night if you don’t know where to look), that trip is worth it because all you hear is the rushing water and no road noise! The grounds are extensive: natural spring feeds a soaking pool or you can go into the river. There are many types of plants and trees and a wetland area, making a nature paradise! The spring water is used in preparing meals as well and the food was fresh and plentiful- we had to telll them to stop bringing food because we didn’t want to waste any!
