The hotel is located near the Parque National Natural Cocuy, very convenient for having access to the park office and only 20km from a beautiful lookout to the Cocuy snow capped mountain range. The kitchen staff were pleasant and the owner was friendly.
We were disappointed with a few things. First, when we arrived, the room I had booked and confirmed on Booking.com was not available. The owner said she had tried to cancel our booking but it hadn’t worked. Instead of a double room with private bath (we assumed this meant bathroom adjoining the room) we were given a room with three single beds and a bathroom down the hall. Other guests used our “private” bathroom. When I had selected the room on booking.com, the price indicated was 70,000 pesos per night, but when we received confirmation, the price had increased. When I was checking out, the owner tried to charge us for three nights, although we had only stayed two. She insisted we had arrived on January 2nd, but we had arrived on the 3rd. She had recorded the wrong date. In the end, she agreed not to charge us for her error and charged us the price we expected. The other issue was meals: breakfasts were fine, but for dinner, my husband didn’t receive what he ordered and had to wait an extra half an hour. To make that worse, when checking out, we realized the price for dinner was 30,000 pesos each, which was at least double the local price. In addition, we asked ahead of time if we could have a secure space for our bicycles. When we arrived, we were told we could leave them in a backyard with no roof, which is risky if there is any rain. Instead, we had to carry our bikes up a narrow staircase and keep them in our tiny room. We are highly seasoned travellers in Colombia and have never had such a disappointing hotel experience.
