About this house rental
Renovated in June 2019, the house is a real haven ideally located in the heart of Chawton village and surrounding Hampshire. Farthings was built circa 1700 for the workers of the Squires big house, which is now the Jane Austen Library in the centre of Chawton. The writer's home, now a museum, is directly opposite the house and it's said that Austen family members stayed in Farthings when they ran out of room. They certainly smoked hams for Squire Knight's guests in the inglenook fireplace.

We enjoyed out stay in this very quaint old cottage with a lovely garden. It was extremely clean and cosy and felt very homely compared to other impersonal places we have stayed in. It was directly opposite Jane Austen's house and the village was very quiet and picturesque. Louise phoned to check that everything was Ok and we felt that she was the perfect host.

Beautiful location with nice walks and lovely museums, cafes, church etc within walking distance. Host was helpful and accommodating as well as a good communicator. House was clean and beds comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.We also recommend the Sunday roast at the Rose and Crown in Upper Farringdon. Delicious!

I loved this cottage - it's in the perfect place for doing everything Jane Austen. Love the ambience and lovely garden to enjoy the sunshine. Checkin was very easy, WiFi good and homely decor. The only reason that I haven't given it 5 stars is that one of my daughters found her bed very uncomfortable and so got very little sleep. The rest of us were fine however.
