Priory Inn

We were welcomed to the Priory Arms and shown to our room, which was a decent size. Although the shower over the bath looked primitive it worked quite well. Breakfast service was good: there was a reasonable selection of fruit juices, hot drinks and yoghurts, whereas our cooked main course was brought to the table. I ordered eggs Benedict, and enjoyed it.

I don't criticise chefs for using artistic licence to add sparkle to a dish, though sometimes they stray too far from the brief. For dinner I had leek & potato soup (I identified onion and maybe garlic though not leek & potato), followed by a Katsu chicken burger; it was okay though not so much Katsu curry sauce as Katsu-like mustard. I wondered why there was a fan whirring in our room when we arrived, though it became evident overnight (some time after the end of the latest heatwave), that the room was quite warm. We had the window open to help with this, though that meant that we could hear a mechanical noise coming from the yard below.

We loved the convenient location, the staff (Rob and Becky) were welcoming and extremely helpful, made us feel valued as guests. Breakfasts and dinner were outstanding, we highly recommend the chicken kebabs, they were delicious. The finer touches of the property such as guest lounge, dining areas and gardens made us feel at home.

We would have liked a small bar fridge in the room.

Close to town center. Food excellent. Service impeccable.
