The Fort York

Central location. Lovely and clean everywhere. Nice large towels and they were changed everyday. Decor was modern and well maintained. Our room had a view of the minster tower and bells on Sunday was lovely to hear.

Nightclub was a bit noisy but earplugs were provided and description did warn you of that, so not complaining.

Excellent location, beautiful room and well equipped

Smack bang in the centre - what a location! We thought the room was really cute, the bed was huge and comfortable, the walk in shower was nice and powerful and the smart TV was an added bonus. Easy to self check in and out and being able to leave luggage next door was brilliant. There’s a little shared kitchen which we didn’t use but it was super clean and had coffee/tea. Also, there was free bottles of water and snacks which we thought was lovely!!!

It didn’t personally bother us because we sleep with the TV on but there is a club downstairs that was open until 3am. The club garden is directly below the windows. Don’t stay if you’re a light sleeper - although the hotel did leave ear plugs! There are multiple flights of stairs up to the room with no lift - again fine for us but don’t stay if you have mobility issues.

The property was spotlessly clean located right in the centre of York. Received instructions on how to get into the property on the morning of our stay managed to get in an hour early so we could explore York without having to carry all our luggage around, the entrance was more like a teenagers bedroom with graffiti all over the walls, it was nice but this did not match the decor in any of the rooms, seemed a bit odd? however the rooms were really pleasant with nice decor and lots of extras such as bottled water snacks and the bathroom was huge. The bed was small but reasonably comfortable, central location so we were in walking distance to everything shops Yorkminster lots of restaurants etc. Saw one member of staff who was very polite and friendly.

Although the Central located this was great during the day, on the evening with people stood around outside bars I can imagine this would feel alittle intimidating entering and exiting, luckily it was quite quiet but I wouldn’t feel happy to have my younger children with me and stay there. After reading reviews we knew the rooms were likely to be hot however even with a large industrial size fan the room was unbearably hot, this meant we had very little sleep. Ear Plugs were provided thank God as the noise from the surrounding bars and businesses woke us up, unfortunately we didn’t find the earplugs until we’d almost given up on sleep altogether, so did manage to have a couple of hours. The noise was wasn’t as bad at night. It started at about 5/430am, no idea what was going on or if this was a one off. As part of the stay it had been noted that there was free luggage storage at the next door bar, unfortunately why they had failed to mention is that said bar was closed for two days Mondays and Tuesdays, this isnt in any of the booking information. One of the reasons we decided to book this particular hotel/room was that it was central and also that there was luggage storage, we visited York a number of times and stayed overnight and wanted to make the most of our day so having to haul suitcases and bags around for the rest of the day along cobble streets was a bit of a nightmare, especially with very little sleep. Really disappointed that this was not mentioned prior, we would of made alternative arrangements or not booked the room if we’d known there was nowhere to start luggage. So for the rest of the day until we were leaving we had to carry all our belonging round with us on very busy crowded streets.
