The location is fantastic. Close to the Art House Project in Honmura, and Naoshima is small enough that everything is easily accessible by bus, or by bike.
The room was wonderfully spacious, comfortable, and came with a mini-fridge and an authentic room yukata for a classic Japanese feel. Having access to a shared kitchen in the main house, plus a washing machine and drying rack, was incredibly useful as a long-term traveler.
The owner is warm, friendly, and loves chatting and helping his guests. It also made things easy that regular bicycles are available directly from him (perfect for exploring the Art Houses and riding to/from the port), while renting an electric bike nearby was ideal for tackling the steeper museum routes.
For me, this was the absolute ideal place to stay on Naoshima!

The host's complimentary bikes are standard (non-electric), which is great for flat areas and local village exploring, but renting an e-bike nearby is definitely recommended for the hillier museum day.

My stay in Naoshima became unexpectedly memorable after I was injured on my way to the property. As a solo traveller, I was incredibly anxious, but Takeo Matsushita showed exceptional kindness and care. He offered to refund my booking if I couldn’t make it, picked me up after I was discharged from the hospital late at night, and dropped me off at the ferry the next day.
His compassion and generosity turned a very difficult experience into one I’ll always remember with gratitude. Thank you, Takeo, for your incredible hospitality.
