Hotel San Lino

We had a very nice welcome and enjoyed our stay at this lovely, well located hotel in Volterra. The bed was comfortable and on the whole the rooms were lovely and quiet. A real bonus was also the parking next to the hotel in a covered parking garage. We enjoyed swimming in the pool and being around the pool area. The little bar by the pool was a bonus.

Hotel is in an excellent location, really good for walking around volterra and the parking (which you need to book and pay extra for) is close to the hotel and super easy to find. The hotel has a lovely pool, with a bar, which was a great place to chill out. The hotel was renovated in the 80s and the decor is a little dated, with no AC in the room and few plugs for charging phones etc. Minor things but they might bother some people. We had a lovely one night stay, and would have liked to stay longer!

The location was great - near to everything in the old town but not in a busy area. The staff were friendly and helpful, the pool and terrace area were great for relaxing in. Breakfast was good. We had all we needed in our room including kettle, fridge , toiletries and slippers . We had a small but lovely balcony with a great view.

The bedroom was a bit small and storage was limited but it was adequate, clean and quiet.

Our stay at this hotel was a mixed experience. Unfortunately, we slept very poorly, mainly due to the noises. The building is quite old, and the walls are extremely thin. We could hear other guests very clearly, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. The soundproofing is virtually non-existent—you can hear toilets flushing and showers running as if they were in your own room. The issue is the extremely loud plumbing. Whenever someone used a shower or flushed a toilet, the noise echoed through the building. It was unusually loud. During our stay, a couple in a neighboring room appeared to be unaware of how much noise carried through the building. Throughout the night, they repeatedly walked up and down the corridor with a crying child, frequently slammed doors, and held conversations outside guest rooms. While this was not the hotel's fault, the lack of sound insulation meant that every noise could be heard clearly, which made sleeping almost impossible. The rooms are rather small, dated, and somewhat dark, although they were very clean and maintained. What truly made a positive difference was the staff. The ladies at the reception were outstanding, friendly, professional, and always willing to help. The service was excellent and certainly helped compensate for some of the hotel's shortcomings. The breakfast was also a highlight. There was a great selection of local products, including fresh honey from a local beekeeper, which was a wonderful touch and particularly appreciated by me as a beekeeper. We also experienced an issue with the hot water in our shower, but the staff handled it very well. They immediately gave us access to another room on the same floor so that we could take a warm shower there. Parking was available within walking distance of the hotel, which was convenient. Overall, while the noise levels and room conditions were disappointing, the exceptional staff and excellent breakfast made the stay much more enjoyable.

It's a shame, because with some renovation and better soundproofing, this hotel would have been close to perfect for us. The staff were exceptional, the breakfast was excellent, and the hotel was very clean. Improving the insulation and reducing the noise levels would make a huge difference to the overall experience.
