Location was perfect, dinner and breakfast were also great and the facilities (2 pools, spa, hot tub etc) were very welcome

The hotel itself is beautiful, as are the grounds.
The food was terrible - well below the standard of the rest of the facilities and hotel itself.
But my main gripe would be with the number of young children present. It feels as if the place has been marketed exclusively to families, or else there were day members who were able to access the facilities.
On the day and night we stayed it was very hot and the pool, which is not very big, had between 12-15 young children using the facility at the same time. It felt as if I was at kids pool party. It wasn't very relaxing or peaceful, to say the least, and not conducive to the kind of the stay I was expecting.
We have young children ourselves, so am familiar with the idea of going on a kids-oriented holiday, and when we do we plan specifically for that kind of trip, but I was not anticipating this when booking to stay at this hotel, which I mistakenly assumed would be more geared to grown ups. We had actually planned a night away as a break from our kids, but found ourselves in accommodation that was anything but a break.
I would only stay here again if I was with my kids, certainly not as a romantic break or time away with my partner.
